 | Rescue question Do pure breeds at rescue organizations generally have health issues that they don't tell you about?
I was curious about a Samoyed rescue. I was surprised that there was one. IMO these dogs aren't like greyhounds or pit bulls which are bred for negative "work" reasons. Unfortunalty because of the way they look, I feel they may often be bred at mills. I never go in puppy stores, so I dont know if they are common.

This is a Samoyed that was used as a mill dog - she isn't social at all. It so sad what they do to these dogs.

 | Re: Rescue question I really don't know much about the breed, but rescue organizations usually are very honest with you about a dog's medical issues. They are not like a store looking to make a buck, the do what they do because they really care.
They want to see the pups go into homes that will take care of them and all their issues.
The rescues that I have had experience with have pretty detailed screenings. They all let me know up front if a dog had any issues (behavioral or health).

 Good luck in your search

ps - Dogs in rescues come from all over the place, and many of them are rescued from puppy mills.

 | Re: Rescue question Most rescue orgs are very forthcoming with the health of the dog as well as the social and character traits b/c they do not want to see a dog re-homed again and again. Many mill dogs have health issues that may not always be breed inherent because the dogs are straight bred (meaning that a b!tch might be bred with her own offspring, or siblings from the same litter might be bred together) and this can cause unforeseen and unpredictable genetic anomalies.
I have seen an increase in the popularity of Samoyeds in the past few years.

OMG... that makes me sick to even think about. I can't believe people can do that.
