relocation help!
Does anyone live in one of these areas?
Manhasset
Port Washington
Bellmore
Merrick
Smithtown
St. James
Commack
Anything you know about them would be great!
These are the towns we really like but would like to narrow our search to 2 or 3 towns so we are not overwhelmed. TIA!

i moved to bellmore in 1994 and stayed there till 2006. now im buying a house in north merrick. the school district is great and i love the area. you can't go wrong with either.

I grew up in Manhasset. It is a great area, good schools and good proximity to the LIRR!

DH grew up in Smithtown and St. James. It is soooo nice out there. Only negative is that it's a bit far out if you have to commute to the city. it used to take DH almsot 2 hours on the LIRR-- one way!
I grew up in the South shore near Bellmore and Merrick...great area and good schools. Great train line...the best , IMO. frequent trains and a quick ride.
I work near Manhasset... beautiful area. the taxes will be a killer though, if money is a concern. in general, very wealthy people there.

I live near smithtown. I used to work there and I love it. The schools are excellent and the town is well maintained. Very pretty.

this is the best train line - since you don't have to go through jamaica! (I lived on the Queens side of it)
It's really nice there, but when we were looking in 2005, there wasn't one listing under $800K.
