Another relocation Question
Ok so I convinced my DH not to go down this weekend. We are going to go looking in 3 weeks.
We are going for 3 days. What type of appointments should I make? What should we do?

Re: Another relocation Question
good question
I was planning on giving a local real estate agent my list of wants for our first trip down
but if someone else has a better idea- I am all for it
I also want to see new construction- do I still contact a real estate agent- or do I need to contact builders?

Re: Another relocation Question
if its an area you are unfarmiliar with, I probably would only look at one or two houses the first trip down. I would concentrate on the neighborhoods first.
Drive around, look at schools (if you go on a school day, you can ask to tour the schools) shopping, houses of worship (especially if you are catholic, catholic churches are not as common in the south), police and fire stations.
FH and I spends tons of weekends looking at neighborhoods, and we only moved a half hour away
good luck, let us know what you find!

New construction, once you find it (I have a book I can send you with lists) has Open Model Homes that you can see without an agent...I would focus on the neighborhood/county and look at houses that way, I don't think an agent is necessary/helpful the first time around since you guys want to be on your own looking around and getting acclamated first.
I'm sorry I haven't replied to your email...life is getting a little less busy, I'll respond.

Re: Another relocation Question
thanks- sorry I feel like I took over this thread
ok- so our first trip down- we should just look at neighborhoods- and some model homes
second trip- focus on homes in neighborhoods we like
how many trips would you say it takes?
we are aiming for Oct of 2008- so I have 18 months

We are going for 3 days. What type of appointments should I make? What should we do?
What we did initially was: go shopping, see where the supermarkets are (if we like them), malls, eat out, etc. Try to see what a "local" would do. We drove around a lot trying to envision ourselves "there"...
Try to narrow the trip to one or 2 neighborhoods/cities that you want to see and really go out, eat at the local places, etc.
What Meaghan said...see where the schools are, churches, parks, etc.
We didn't make any appointments other than to see houses...but that was to get an idea. We saw houses in 3 counties (cities)...then our next few trips were more focused on particular cities/neighborhood/subdivision so we spent more time driving around and researching the one area we liked...
