Regular or Video Monitor (with poll)

We registered for and got a regular monitor for the baby...but at the shower my aunt told my husband to get the video one because it is so much better. We didn't register for it because they are so expensive (cheapest we really saw taht had good reviews was $200). What are you girls doing??

ETA: I looked at the video monitors and the reason I liked the regular was becuase it came with 2 docks so I could put a receiver in the bedroom and one downstairs. The video one only has one and that means we'd have to carry it around the house with me all the time right?

Re: Regular or Video Monitor (with poll)

We had a video monitor for baby #1 which we will be reusing for this baby. I think it's well worth the extra money to be able to see what is going on in there rather than just hear noises and not know what they are.

We didn't have a video monitor with our first and we won't with our next. We have a ranch, though. If we had a 2 story home I might feel differently...

BTDT's told me the video was worth the $$ bc you can see if the baby is just fussing and avoid going into their room for every noise they make so we went with the video.

Re: Regular or Video Monitor (with poll)

We only have a regular monitor right now and honestly we haven't even used that very much. However, DS still sleeps in our room at night, so we may find the need for a video one once we move him into his crib/room.

We just registered for a regular monitor

we felt we didn't need a video monitor, and that if we had one, we'd be checking it constantly and become overly paranoid/protective.
we also have a 2 story house

but i know some people want that extra peace of mind that comes with having one, so i'd say its whatever you're comfortable with

100% video monitor!

Summer sells refurbished ones for like $80. We will be getting one of those for DC#2

eta - this is from an old post of mine

If I didn't have a video one, then I wouldn't know what I was missing. So, I would say you don't need one.

However, I do have a video monitor (summer handheld) and I couldn't imagine not having it:

- The biggest benefit I think , is that it allows you to see if the baby is actually sleeping, instead of just laying there awake, quietly. Sometimes I would swear DD was asleep, but she wasn't. This helped me better schedule the day since I knew, more accurately how long she napped. (sometimes she would wake up and lay there quietly for half an hour. I would have thought she was asleep)

- When I started to give her a blanket in the crib, I didn't have to peek in a hundred times, trying to avoid the creek in the hallway so it didn't disturb her

- Also, I would hear her start to stir and sometimes she would get up, but then I would be able to see that she layed back down , which might lead to her falling back asleep. I think if I didn't have the video, I would think she was awake, I heard her , I would just go in and get her

Those were the biggest benefits to me.

Re: Regular or Video Monitor (with poll)

Video monitor was the best gift! I couldn't live without it. For the people that say you would be obsessed with looking at it constantly. You are only like that when they are very little, and you would be obsessed with checking on them anyway with or without the video. Once they get older it's just great to have to check if they are really sleeping or just laying quite. It's great now that DS is starting to fight naps and will try to get us to come in by saying things like" his foots stuck, or his pants are falling down" when I can just look at monitor and see he is fine.

We have a video and live in an apartment. I just wanted to make sure I can see my baby at all times not just hear.

Re: Regular or Video Monitor (with poll)

I live in the worlds smallest house and a video monitor was a must especially since baby will be in his own room from day one.
