regaining lost weight - newborns

how long did it take your newborn to regain weight lost in the hospital?

DD was born at 7.6lbs and dropped down to 7 even - not bad! We had our first weight check today and she hasn't regained anything at 6 days though she is eating what I feel like is a TON.

My son lost almost a lb but regained instantly so this is new to me.

Ped is having us back in 2 days to recheck weight.

Re: regaining lost weight - newborns

It took both my boys some time. I know they didn't gain by the first visit and we had to go back again and I think one of them had just gained it back by 3 weeks.
As long as theywere nursing and nursing well he didn't seem to concerned
Edited to add my boys were born at 9.4 and 8.9 not sure how much they lost.

Re: regaining lost weight - newborns

It took a good 3 weeks but I was having BFing issues which probably complicated things in the beginning wrt her weight.

Re: regaining lost weight - newborns

DS was 7 lb 4 oz when he was born on 01/01/13 and when we left the hospital on 01/04/13 he was 6 lb 13 oz. We saw he doctor on 01/13/13 and he was 6 lb 10 oz. We went for a weight check on 01/15/13 and he was 7 lb 8 oz. So, for our little guy it was about 2 weeks.

DS was born at 7lbs 14oz. I think he left the hospital at 7-6. It took him 2 weeks to get back to his birthweight.

Now, at 10 months he's over 20lbs!

Took my dd about 3 weeks. She was 6lbs 2oz when born and 5lbs 10z when we brought her home. We brought her to the doc every 3/4 days for weight for about the first month. She finally gained a pound and was 6lbs 10 oz by the end of her first month.

It took DD about 3 weeks. We had to go for weight checks every 3 days or so for the first 2 weeks when she finally started putting on an ounce a day. She was a very sleepy newborn and is ebf so it took a little while.

Re: regaining lost weight - newborns

When i was EBF it took almost a month for my DD to regain her birth weight and that only happened after we started supplementing because she wasn't even maintaining and still losing slowly.

I was told with BF it can take up to 2-3 weeks. With FF if should be within 1-2 weeks.

My DS was BF and FF and went above birth weight at 1.5 weeks.

Brielle was 5-8, went to 5-1 and came home there. I think she was around 5-7 at 9 days. I think hannah was back to birthweight at like 3 weeks.
