Reflux moms

DS has reflux. He is 3 months old (1 month adjusted).
GI has not prescribed anything yet bc we are first addressing the formula issues.
He is pretty much a running faucet of formula all day.
I have his crib mattress propped up but he still spits up overnight. I feel terrible that by the time he wakes up for a feeding he is sleeping in cold wet pajamas on a wet sheet.
Sometimes it is all in his hair.
Any suggestions?

Re: Reflux moms

first off let me say that i feel your pain. DD is 4 mos and has terrible reflux!!

Make sure you're getting good burps out before you put him down.

After bed time bottle i keep DD upright for about 30 minutes before i put her down. Usually over my shoulder so she burps a few more times.

Also, i have one of those rock-n-play sleepers that she sleeps in. Seems to help keep it "in".

He is a terrible burper. I try my best. It's usually a small burp and then projectile spit up.
I keep him upright for at least 30 minutes. and he hates being on my shoulder.
I have the rock n play and he still gets it up.
Feedings are taking an hour bc I have to keep him upright. And I feel like what's the point if he still gets it up?
I'm hoping when I go back to the GI I'm two weeks that we can do something about it.
Thanks

Re: Reflux moms

i hear you....

is he really uncomfortable? maybe if he's not, then dont worry about it much. i know it's gross, but if he's gaining weight and not uncomfortable, then maybe do nothing...except more laundry! lol

DD is terribly uncomfortable and has had episodes where she has choked and gagged on her spit up. She's on medication AND mylanta, which has helped a lot.

You are describing my son exactly. We are on formula number three (Alimentum). Haven't tried meds yet. But I think that's in our future as he is still gagging and choking. I took the rock n play out today. Going to try it tonight. But...the hour long feeding in the MOTN is KILLING me.

Re: Reflux moms

are you giving him frequent burps during feedings? my 34 weeker (7 months actual now) needed at least 3 burp breaks during feedings to help him digest everything well when he was that age

our ped also put him on Axid 3x a day which we just weaned him from last month!

Many babies are happy spitters and don't actually need reflux meds. And reflux meds don't necessarily prevent the spitting up, just the pain/discomfort. DS was on Zantac which tremendously helped his reflux and he was no longer in pain. But he still spit up like it was his job. All babies eventually outgrow the spitting up.

Reflux moms

We went from breasts milk to gerber good start. Then to alimentum. And now he is on Elecare. It appears he has a milk allergy.
He does not appear to be in discomfort when he spits up. He just does it projectile when I burp him. And then it just pours out of him all day long.
I do pace him. I attempted to burp him three times. But he actually doesn't let me. He screams until he gets the bottle back. And he pushes back against me so I can't sit him up or put him on my shoulder. It's very frustrating.

He tested positive for blood in his stool. My ped got me in to the GI quickly. That's why they think it's an allergy.
Plus his severe discomfort.

I gave up changing my clothes throughout the day. Unless I need to go out, i stay covered in spit up.
