i need some advice from reflux moms do i call ped tomorrow? UPDATED!

so my dd has reflux im sure you've prob read one of my desperate posts in the last week or so. anyway. I did contact the Ped. and they told me to give her mylanta 3 times a day and if it were to get worse to call and we would dicuss the possibility of needing zantac or previcid.

So ive been giving her mylanta since tuesday night. and i have to say i dont see any difference. her reflux never used to bea problemjust a water fountain with no reaction. Now today/night for example.. when she burps (you can tell whens omething comes up it smells sour) she SCREAMS and i dont mean scream i mean like someone just made her drink acid. (obviously thats what reflux is but its the worst sound to hear her scream like that) she screams throught some bottles. not every feeding. and not ever day but its mostly her last night bottle before bed. screams till shes red in the face and tears coming down her cheeks i end up rocking her with a pacifier to calm her where she then falls asleep and she ends up dream feeding her last bottle. (maybe a sign that she doesnt need that bottle??)

Im just at a complete loss and dont know what to do... do i call the ped tomorrow they are open at 9am. and see if i can go in and talk to them? Im concerned because we have a flight on monday to go out of state till next sat. and im concerned it will just elevate while we are away and then im stuck between a rock and a hard place.

please help!

I would definitely call...especially since they're open and esp since you're going away on Monday...

thanks i just feel so helpless when she screams and i just want to hld her and comfort her but theres nothing i can do! .. i think ill call bright and early! even if its for them to tell me to give the mylanta some more time

My DD was on Zantac and there was such a difference, I am very glad we had that option. She took it for a couple of months and then we stopped and no more problems.

DS was put on zantac and we switched to similac sensitive RS and it made a HUGE difference for him. Good luck!

DS was crying often during feedings, much worse w/ the powder formula so we switched back to RTF so the Dr. prescribed Zantac. I have to be honest when the dr. said it could be some reflux and prescribed the meds..I really was surprised b/c I didn't think she had reflux. Since she has been using the Zantac I have noticed a difference...she used to spit up alot and seemed to scream alot more w/o the Zantac...I hope you do call..good luck..keep us posted.

My DD has been on Axid since 6 wks. My first DD had acid reflux as well and was also on axid which is why I did not hesitate when I began to see the same signs w/ my 2nd DD. With that said, I began decreasing her dosage b/c I thought she was doing much better AND THEN SHE BEGAN TO EAT!!! My Ped warned me that the reflux could become much worse when you introduce cereal and fruits. It definitely has...so, now she is basically back on her original dosage and doing much better. It def sounds like reflux to me... my DD had the same symptoms...it wouldn't come flying out of her mouth - I would hear it come up on her, she would swallow really hard and would almost squeak and then start CRYING!!
The medicine is working wonders on her. I hope your ped gives you the answers you need. GL

I think you should consider having her allergy tested. It is not painful and you can get some concrete answers on the allergy. Second-yes I absolutely think you should call the ped and put her on Zantac. I also wante dto let you know the blood in poop test is not definitive so she could still have an allergy to dairy. As soon as we put my son on amino acid formula he did not need maalox, zantac or any of it, He was a super happy baby after that

my dd is on axid and within a week it was a whole new baby....I remember the pain screaming when I would try to feed her, call the ped ......

UpDATE: well lastnight the screaming and fussing and tears just completely elevated. i didnt feel comfortable waiting till the morning and also felt extremelly stupid taking her to the ER but my mom and i discussed it (DH was at work) and though it would be the best to take her to the ER and have her looked at i was then concerned maybe it was her ears or throat and i was missing it. we were in and out within an hour Good Sam was wonderful! and the doctor that saw abby was AMAZING! im actually considering looking up to see if he has his own practice because i loved him so much!

he said everything i was describing was a Reflux issue and that we should really put her on the zantac. i asked about testing her again for an allergy and possibily switching her formula yet again. (alothough i really didnt want to since my insurance DOESNOT cover it and i dont think i would be able to afford it! but certainly would not be against it if thats what dd NEEDS!) he said give her the zantac and call the PED in the AM.

I called this morning and the doctor said to give her the zantac for the week while im away and see how shes doing. and to come into the office next monday. so i made the apt. where i will once again discuss allergy testing and possibly going to AA formula.

The ER doc also suggested i was feeding her too much. (im just following the Peds orders) so im going to try his suggestions and see if that helps!

I just wanted to say thank you again so much ladies it helps to have outside looking in suggestions!

All in all it was a successful trip and she ended up sleeping in her carseat for 9 hours straight when i got home. im going to try and elevate her crib mattress more. if not she will be slepeig in the bouncy seat for a little while. both doctors suggested this so well see!
