Reflux Mommies - When to Wean from Meds?

Jordan is six months old and personally, I don't think he's ready to come off meds yet - although I wish he was! We're seeing his GI next week, but how did you know when DC was ready or did you just wait until dr. said something? Also, Jordan is teething pretty badly and has the botton two teeth just breaking through so I don't want to put him into any more misery than he already is!

We had our 6 month visit and asked dr. and they said we can start weening now.. he was fine. good luck

We tired after 6 months and it was a disaster. So we tired again around 8 months and have been off of it now for about 4 weeks

We tried at 6 months and disaster. Tried at 9 months and disaster. Tried at a year and disaster.

We weaned at 5 months. His reflux got better when he started solid foods and at that point, he no longer was arching really badly or was in pain when he ate. He still spits up a lot, but he doesn't appear in pain any more. He seemed "ready" to me.

At his 6 month visit the dr said we can try to start weaning him off Axid. It didn't go very well. He has been on 1ML 3 times a day. We tried again at 7 months. We were able to go down to 1ML 2 times a day. At 9 months he is still at 2 doses a day. When he has a major flare up, we give him the extra dose...

We got the go ahead to try at 6 months---at first I really wasn't sure--it's so much harder to tell what is bothering them at this age--I was wondering if it was reflux, or teething or upset tummy from something he ate....anyways, someone else mentioned to watch him carefully when he burped and to see if he was upset and he wasn't, so I slowly continued weaning. We went from 2x/day to 1x/day to every other day over the course of 2 weeks. He is now 7.5 months and off meds and doing fine. It was hard for me to even think about weaning bc I was worried he would be uncomfortable and I remember how much he just cried in the beginning. GL

Our Ped said they usually do it around 10months- year... we tried @ 10 months and it didnt work.. tried at 12 months, didnt work... tried it at around 14 months, no problems at all... very weird.

My DD is 15 months and still on meds. The GI said that we can see that she is still refluxing (still spitting up) so we should still be protecting her esophagus with the Prilosec.
