They are giving tickets now if you do not stop for 6 seconds before you turn. My guess is that is what happened. I know 2 people who that happened to also.

yup! this happened to DH. we had to go online to watch the video to see what happened. he rolled through the red light, making a right turn. check out the video, this is likely what happened with you too.

Re: red light camera question...

I think you are supposed to stop at the red light for a full 3 seconds (I could be wrong) before making the turn.

I got one like that.
I just paid the damn thing. Cheaper then finding a sitter and going to court to have to pay anyway.

That is correct. they time how long you stop.

Did it come with a video? I got a ticket for turning on red and I was going to fight it until I watched the video and realized I didn't stop, not even a little bit.

My DH just got one of those as well. Same thing everyone is saying - he didn't stop at the red light, just kept going when he made the right.

Re: red light camera question...

Same here... DH got one in the mail last month and while the intersection didn't have a no turn on red sign, he didn't come to a stop before turning. They must be making bundles of money on these cameras!!

Re: red light camera question...

You have to make a full stop at the white
line before the red light before you make the turn. If there's no sign that says you can't turn on red, you can then go after making the full stop. Stop, count to three, and then go.

Yes, when hubby tried to fight one, they said most red light tickets are because people either stop after the white line, or they do not stop long enough.

Re: red light camera question...

It stinks so many people are getting these tickets...its defin for the county to make money, and they are taking 50 bucks that residents do not have in this economy.

I understand you have to make a stop at a red light, but no where in the drivers ed manual does it say how many seconds you need to stop, that is something the red light camera company in AZ made up to make money. Most of the money goes to that AZ company as well.

If you need to make a full stop then why do i see signs that say "right on red after stop"
at some intersections...very weird

I agree! DH is a cop so I asked him- if you were watching a red light and saw someone stop fully- then go- is that ok?
He said yes.
I said- well what if they didn't stop for 3 seconds.
He said there is no law saying how long you have to stop for- just full stop, if all is clear, then go.
They made up some arbitrary number of seconds- that NOBODY knows about, nor is it a law- and they are making cash hand over fist on it.
I really think if you fought it- based on that- you might have a case.
But then again- nobody wants to deal with going to court- so they pay the $50.
SO frustrating and NOT fair. Chat Icon

Because so many people do not think you need to stop even though there is a red light. One of my FB got a ticket for making a right on red. They did not stop because they can make the right. That there was still a red light at that intersection completely escaped them.

I don't know where they came up with the number of seconds you have to wait before proceeding but it takes me more then 2 seconds to be sure the intersection is clear. But really, 3 seconds, 5 seconds....it's not that much time.
