Recylcables Storage - Paper
Our town only picsk up paper every 2 weeks, so we collect a lot of it. Where do you keep yours? I don't want the garage, afraid of bugs.

We keep the loose paper in a pail from the town (Islip WRAP pail). Cardboard we keep in the garage until it's time to put it out. Never had a problem with bugs.

For anything too thick to shred, we use a basket tucked into a cubby bench. Everything else gets shredded and composted.

Do you compost the pages with color print too? I read somewhere that the color print could contain heavy metals and it wasn't a good idea to compost those. I'd love to add my newspapers to my compost but was concerned about the color print which seems to be on at least one side of every page.

we have something like this on our pantry floor:
Ours is black and scrolly and pretty though... I thought I got it from Lillian Vernon but I can't find it on the site.

Re: Recylcables Storage - Paper
We have a medium sized plastic container with a flap lid in our hall closet for all paper. Cardboard goes outside most of the time. We bought it from Ikea. I believe they had 3 different sizes and it's cheap. Not sure if they still have the one that we have, but they do have others online I just saw. And we have never had a problem with bugs and they pick up every other week in our area.

Ahhh someone in the know! I've done a lot of research on this but try not to hit people in the face with too much information.
From what I've read, most newspapers are switching over to safer ink methods. I don't compost anything that's color or glossy like the store circulars, those go in the recycle basket. We do food shopping at Whole Foods so the cardboard containers we get there are 'safe'. And we don't get the newspaper delivered, so we really don't have much of the possible non-safe kinds of stuff.
Here's a good link about it too: http://www.grist.org/article/umbra-papercompost/
