Is that crazy or is it just me???? Our house is not that big and not close to the water at all.

That's a lot!!! Chat Icon
I got quotes from Allstate, State Farm, and Geico and they were all pretty much the same. In the $800 range.

It might be your location though...You are South of Merrick aren't you?

We have Hanover through Rampart Brokerage. I worked there for 4 years. I can recommend someone for you to speak to. FM me Vanessa if you're interested.

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Recommendations neded...

Thanks everyone -

DH is going to call a bunch more places tomorrow. I just cannot BELIEVE the prices we were getting! I don't understand it Chat Icon

We are about a mile and a half from the water - can that be the reason our quotes are high? My parents are less than a mile from the water in Suffolk and had their house burn to the ground a few years back and they only pay $1700 yearly. You would think that their insurance would have skyrocketed...

Does anyone have phone #'s of their insurance companies for me???? You can FM if you want...

Thanks!!!

Re: Recommendations neded...

Try TSC Direct they gave me the best quote. I have State Farm but am in the processes of switching to TSC Direct.

I think we pay a pretty high preimium. We're in Suffolk, a mile from the water and right around the corner from the fire house, but it's still $1,500 a year with Liberty Mutual. Could it be the age of the house? Ours is 100 years old and even though everything (electrical, heating, roof, etc.) is brand new we were told there is a higher premium on older homes.

I just got quoted a similar premium from State Farm, but the coverage was better, so I'm going to be changing.

this is what I thought of too. Ask your bank/mortgage company what they require you to cover. There is a big difference between purchase price and replacement price

Re: Recommendations neded...

we have state farm. if you are in a flood zone your premium is going to be higher, plus you will also have to get flood insurance.
it also depends on the value of your house.
