Its trial and error until you find one they like. Every kid is different IMO.

Straw cups are best for oral development. I liked the playtex brand ones. I just threw out my last one but they lasted me through two kids.

good to know - I thought that straw cups would come after the usual looking sippy cups with the spout. maybe i will try going straight to a straw one. ill look into playtex too.

Yes playtex little grippers. You can squeeze the sides so water goes into the straw. It helps them get used to drinking out of a straw.

Re: recommend a good first sippy cup
We skipped sippy cups and went right to straw cups. They are better for oromotor development. For dd1 we used the playtex ones you can squeeze, but I couldn't find them for dd2, so we went with (and love) the avent straw cups.

Re: recommend a good first sippy cup
DD liked the Nuby sippy cups best- she didn't take to straw cups right away. Of course this was after trying Nuk, First Years, 360 Cup, and god only knows how many others. Now she uses all of them and straw cups and drinks from juice boxes.
