Recipe Ideas

Where do you ladies get all of your recipe ideas? And what channel is the Food Network if you have cablevision? I have the hardest time planning meals and I usually get disappointed and just give up. Thanks ladies! Chat Icon

Re: Recipe Ideas

I 2nd those sites. Food Network is on 66 on Cablevision. Rachel Ray books are great for ideas. I let my kids look through them and pick out a meal once a month. The ingredients are accessible and, hey, it's only 30 minutes.

Re: Recipe Ideas

I love Epicurious.com and Foodnetwork.com when I am stuck for ideas. I watch FoodTV - love Chopped, Iron Chef and Good Eats best of all. I watch some of the chefs - Giada, Ina - but I'm not a special fan of any of them. It's just nice to see different techniques. Sometimes I'll look up the menu for a favorite restaurant and try to emulate a signature dish. I also play around with a lot of different spices and flavors to see which ones love each other.

As for meal planning.. I look at sales and what I have in the fridge. Almost all my meals have a main protein, a starch and at least one veggie. It's old school thinking and I recognize that - but it works for me. I also like having a lot of different colors so the meal looks pretty. Plating is pretty important to me because the better it looks the more I want to eat!Chat Icon So if I am making something like chicken - I know I am going to need some red or orange on the plate. It's weird .. but I am kind of visual!
