Receiving blankets...forgive my ignorance but...

what exactly do I do with the receiving blankets? Do I use them to swaddle? Use them as burp cloths? I got so many of them as shower gifts and I really don't know what I am supposed to do with themChat Icon

yes - to swaddle.

I also used them early as a blanket (something that wasn't so big)

When Andy was really little we were able to swaddle him with them, but he quickly was able to burst out.

I mainly use them at the dr's office to keep him covered between when the nurse weighs him and the dr comes in the room.

I also use them to stuff around him and keep him propped up in big shopping carts like the ones at Target.

If you can take some back and exchange for something else you need I'd do that.

I put them on the floor. Or I use them for burp clothes. Or to cover him when we go out. I love them.Chat Icon

I used the thermal ones from Babies R Us to swaddle her when she was little. Then I also use them to cover her up if it's chilly and she's in the swing or pack and play. And I bring them out with me if we go to a family or friend's house or put them on her in her car seat. I would say 6 or so is a good amount to have if you do laundry pretty often.

Re: Receiving blankets...forgive my ignorance but...

We used them all the time. Definitely for swaddling at night and during naps. Also to cover the baby while they were in the swing or bouncy. We used it on the floor to lay the baby down. Over the stoller too. I'd say at least those 4 but you may want more just depends on how often you do laundry b/c they get spit up on them and drool.

ETA they are different from burp clothes which you will also need a ton of b/c those you can use for everything. A piece of advice that we got. We put a cloth diaper (which we use as burp cloths) on each thing the baby sits on (the stoller, car seat, bouncy seat, etc.) underneath him/her and when she did have an explosive poopy Chat Icon it didn't get all over the seat cover and we didn't have to constantly remove and launder the seat covers, just the burp cloth instead.

I'd say 6, and then we used the Miracle Blanket for swaddling.

Re: Receiving blankets...forgive my ignorance but...

I didn't know what I'd use them for initially either. They are great to take with you anywhere you go - out to friends/parents/Dr. office...also for swaddling and propping baby on their side. I have to supply daycare w/2 each week bc DS loves to snuggle w/one by his face. Chat Icon I also stuffed one in the top of the Bundle Me when he was too little to fill it up (just like an extra layer) So although I use them here and there I go through them quickly. I'd say 6-8 is fine.

Re: Receiving blankets...forgive my ignorance but...

I use them all the time. I always have one draped over me so baby is on that instead of my clothes. I use them as burp clothes...I fold them up as well and put them under his head when I feed him laying down in bed.

Re: Receiving blankets...forgive my ignorance but...

I barely used mine and felt like they were a waste. I had a winter baby so I used fleecey or warmer ones under the bundle me and I had swaddle wraps for swaddling. I like bigger and thicker blankets for the floor. I just used a couple for propping him up or when the weather got warmer and he needed a light blanket.

Hey, I was nesting!!! I was 11 days late and I finished work one month before he was born. I think that was the last time my iron saw the light of day!!!

They were such nice flat things to iron as well...

Re: Receiving blankets...forgive my ignorance but...

I used mine for all the things listed here. Covering DD in the summer, burping, lying on the floor, swaddling, as a quick thing to grab when she spit up, etc. We tried using them for swaddling, but honestly the Miracle Blanket worked much better. Chat Icon

Re: Receiving blankets...forgive my ignorance but...

I used mine maybe 3 times. they are just sitting in drawer. DD hated swaddling, and she grew so fast they were a waste to even cover her with.

I would say keep 2, so you have 1 when the other is dirty, or you can keep 1 in the diaper bag and one in the house.

I use cloth diapers as burp cloths.
