re: Nike + accurancy
just wanted to let the nike+ girls know, I've done 2 races with it. The first, nike+ was under by .04. but the second (a NYRR event) was over .01 -- so I think it's safe to say it's pretty accurate (if I ran outside turns, etc...that could have been the difference)

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
Thanks, Erica. Mine used to be accurate, but is not any more. Do you know how to recalibrate? I have the sport band, not the nano if that makes a difference.

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
I forgot to say - those were both 4 mile races.
I have never recallibrated - I just reset/reboot every few days (now I'm paranoid, after losing some runs)
can you reboot the wristband some way?
Azad...I'm doing another 4 mile in 2 weeks...do you think I should callibrate it against that? (it was only .01 off the whole race) or do you think I'm OK to leave it.

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
it's best to calibrate on measured short distances, like a 1/4 mile. You can either use a track or go to mapmyrun on the highest zoomed in view and map out a 1/4 mile distance. I did the later and mine has worked great for a couple of months now.

I don't think so - it seems yours is really on target, i wouldn't mess with it. Mine had been off by about a tenth of a mile and now it has gotten worse - I think that is just due to my running improvement though
You're right Shiv - I need to get my butt to the track but I am too lazy.

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
Like Shiv said go to a 1/4 mile track. After you run, it should give you an option to calibrate. If not my nike+ has a calibration option at the bottom of the different workout options.

The mine works is you would have to click on nike + on your ipod then click on settings and then sensor. Then you pick calibrate. Mine has been off by .3 however I just calibrated it at the track the other day (just did 1/4m) then did my run and now it's .2 under Still learning
? all you girls that are using this nike plus do you all have the shoes for it or do some wear it on their shoe with the pouch?

i don't have the shoes or the pouch. I just slip the sensor under my front laces and it stays in place.

Yeah so don't do what I did today.
I reset my nike+ callibration and then proceeded to callibrate a 5 mile run. I didn't realize a callibration is JUST a callibration and I "lost" another workout. That's 10 miles between last week and this week

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
mine was getting worse with accuracy and then the chip died completely (which is why i haven't synched runs )
but i would just recalibrate. I run at the same pace for my long runs, so I am beginning to learn how far im going by that as well.

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
I'm so frustrated with mine!! My nike+ said I ran 7 miles a few weeks ago, but when I checked it against mapmyrun it was closer to 6 miles...big difference!! Yesterday I went to a track to calibrate it. First I ran .25 miles just to see what it said and it was right on at .25. Then I ran another .25 to calibrate. After calibrating I ran 3 miles around the track and I could see as I was running that it was off. By the time I finished the 3 miles it was at 3.5. ***?? Should I try the rebooting thing? Would that help? I have the sensor in a shoe pouch since nike shoes just aren't comfortable for me. I would be okay with it if it was only off by a tiny bit, but it's a huge difference.

I use the pouch also and in the beginning it was .3 off (over then what mapmyrun would say) however I finally calibrated it and then did my run and it was .2 under but then yesterday i used it on the treadmill just to see and it was .03 off which isn't a big deal, but i'm gonna have to try it again out of the road to see. I did reboot mine though.

Nope I have nike+ shoes and I have been having issues with the nike+ saying I have run more then I know I did.
It's so random for me though...one run will be spot on (when I run the route I usually do), but for my longer runs it says I run sometimes a mile more then I do.
I am going to the track tonight to caliberate..hopefully that will fix it.

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
Okay here is my lesson learned. If you calibrate on shorter distances it seems to be better. After my 5 mile "calibration" from yesterday I decided to do a 1/4 mile one today. I calibrated and then did a 3 mile run which was just a bit off and I corrected it by calibrating at the end of the run. Now it seems to be working well.
I have the Nike+ shoes too.

How user friendly is the Nike+. I am thinking about getting one so I can track my mileage and how fast I go, etc but I dont know how often I will get on the computer to upload and look at graphs, etc.

I think it is pretty user friendly. I am not a huge computer person and it's pretty easy for me to do.
I recaliberated last night at the track .25 mile and then went for a 3 mile run and it was back to normal. See how it is this weekend with my long run.

Re: re: Nike + accurancy
I think key may be frequent restarting...I did the same 4 mile week (where it was off .01) and now it was off .07
the next day I went to run and I sae my history was blank...so a reset and it was on again! I'm going to reset every time I use it I think
