Re-glazed bathtub?? Anyone ever do this?
Has anyone ever reglazed their bathtub? Do you like it? Would you recommend having it done? Any recommendations on who to do it? I was thinking of calling Bath Fitters or Empire Today for quotes.
TIA

Are you talking about reglazing or having a bath liner fitted?
We had our 100+ year old claw-footed tub reglazed and it turned out great. I can't remember the name of the company, but it is on John Street in Babylon.

reglazed or bath fitter? I reglazed mine. Reglazing they paint over the tub, with Bath Fitters they install a "tub" or shower made of hard "plastic" over a tub.

I reglazed my bathtub but we live in a co-op and I wasnt going to replace the tub when we will only be there a few more years. If I was in a house I wouldnt do it b/c it does and will chip. Ours has chipped but we will prob just reglaze it again before we sell and it will still come out to be cheaper than replacing our cast iron tub. I think it was about 400 to reglaze.

we re-glazed our cast iron tub (orig. to the house)...very happy with the results as our tub is deeper and longer than most tubs :)

We had reglazed ours, but a warning... if you have dogs, don't bath them in the tub if they have long nails... we learned that the hard way!!!

Re: Re-glazed bathtub?? Anyone ever do this?
We did ours about a year ago, and used European Reglazers (516) 932-8110. We just did the tub, not the tile, and it cost about $300. For us, it was a good quick fix for our pink bathtub, in order to give the bathroom a very basic facelift (along with replacing the toilet and painting). There were a couple of incidents with the glaze peeling where they've had to come back, but it is guaranteed for 5 years. It isn't a perfect solution, but it worked for us with our budget. All of the awful pink is out of our bathroom without having to do a major project.

I am not a fan of the bath fitters plastic tubs. They feel fake to me since I grew up with an old cast iron tub. My friends reglazed and it looked great. They were very happy and based on OPs, it seems really reasonable.

Re: Re-glazed bathtub?? Anyone ever do this?
In my condo, we removed a bath fitter and gutted the bathroom. I do NOT recommend bath fitters.
In our house, the tub was reglazed by the previous owners. The tub is great- just make sure you don't use anything "harsher" than soft scrub when you clean it.
The only complaint I have is that they reglazed the tub AND the tiles all around the bathroom walls. I have a hard time cleaning the tiles- some of the glaze is chipping off the tiles, but that's because I was probably too harsh when cleaning. The tub is 100% fine though.

We reglazed our tub, but to answer your question, depends on how long you want it to last. I had mine done 5 years ago when we moved in but the paint around the drain is peeling now. However the major concern we had when we first did it was the middle of the tub which was complete metal and is still in great condition.
