Did you fast before the glucose test? updated with another question!
My dr told me they tell you to but you don't really need to In the meantime, I want to give myself the best shot at passing this thing!! What are you ladies told to do?
Updated question:
I ultimately decided I'll fast since the place where I'm doing it said fast from midnight the night before.. so figured I'll just do what they say........ In the meantime, I have a really stupid question.
I'll be getting the first blood drawn at 10am, then taking the drink and getting the second blood drawn an hour later. Can I eat after the first blood test, or do I have to wait the full hour till the blood tests are completely over to start eating?
I somehow feel like this is a stupid question and I won't be able to eat till it's all over!

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test?
I was told not to eat anything the morning of.
FYI - I had an ice cream sundae the night before and failed with my second son. I would steer clear of Friendly's if I were you

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test?
My OB told me not to eat anything after 8pm two days before the test. I also try to limit my sweets as much as possible (no cookies, no ice creams and no shakes). I went and took it and pass !

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test?
I did not fast. I actually had a list of things OK to eat that morning. I lost it but I remember sugary things like maple syrup were no-nos. I ate scrambled eggs with cheese for both tests and passed both times.

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test?
My dr. told me to fast and to make my appt first thing in the morning. He said some foods can give off a false positive...a lot of girls disagree with that on here but that came straight from my dr. Makes sense to me since you have to fast for the 3 hour. I fasted and passed! Good luck!

I fasted, I was told if I ate anything it would ruin the results. I dont remember if there was a cut off time for the night before.

I was told not to eat anything an hour before the test. I ate at 8:45 that morning and had a 12:30 appt. I am waiting for my results so I'll let you know!

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test?
Neither time was I told to fast. First time I just had an english muffin with butter cause I had an early morning appointment. THis time I have it during lunch and I asked if I could eat breakfast and they said yes, just don't have donuts or such.

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test?
My Dr told me not to fast and even went so far as to say to lie to the techs at Quest and say I fasted since they get all bent out of shape about it.
I didn't fast- but ate no sugar or carbs that morning. I had a hard boiled egg and a cheese stick. I passed.

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test? updated with another question!
To answer your updated question- I only had one blood draw for the 1 hour. (I drank the drink, sat an hour, had the blood drawn) If you are having 2 blood draws though-I would imagine you CAN"T eat in between. They yelled at me for taking a sip of water while waiting for my blood draw on the one hour. So they are pretty strict.

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test? updated with another question!
Your new question....
if your Dr. told you to fast then they take blood 2 times- once before and once after you drink.
You are in the office and I wouldn't suggest eating because the 2nd test shows how your body reacts to the glucose.
I only had my blood drawn once because my Dr. told me that I didn't have to fast.

Thanks, this makes a lot of sense to me for why some people are told to fast and others aren't.......
Ah I just want to get this out of the way.. I hate fasting!!

So, you think I won't even be able to sip water?!
It's bad enough I can't eat till after 11am ..They do realize I'm pregnant, right?!

You can't intake ANYTHING until you step foot outside the lab. Just think of it that way for no confusion. No food, no water, no nothing. I was also told to fast for 12 hours before my test. OMG I was so hungry!

I think making a pregnant woman fast is inhumane!!

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test? updated with another question!
I have to fast for a blood sugar test every week! Luckily, they always give me an 8:00 or 8:15 appt, so it isn't too bad.
Honestly, I would stay up late the night before and eat something just before the cut off

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test? updated with another question!
If you want to sip some water just make sure they don't see you. The tech saw me and called me out in front of the whole waiting room! She threatened to cancel my test- and I swear I wuold have called my Dr right then and there if she tried to pull that!
The tech who drew my blood told me not to worry abuot it- that a few sips would never affect it and that the other woman was just a royal beyotch!

Re: Did you fast before the glucose test? updated with another question!
I didn't fast with my first pregnancy, and limited carbs/sugars the few days before. Morning of I had scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. Passed with flying colors.
This time, I fasted the morning of but had a root beer float at 11 pm the night before.
Also passed with similar numbers
I kept a juice box in my bag just in case I started getting dizzy/lightheaded after the draw (I only had one blood draw at the 1 hr mark). I did mine first thing in the morning both times.
I think this is one of those "your mileage may vary" type situations, either your body will handle the sugars well or not....
