Random poll - What do you prefer doing - cooking or baking?
I've discovered I'm more than comfortable with baking. I love it actually.
Cooking....frustrating as hell for me if it requires lots of veggies and onions and garlic to be chopped...uggggh. I feel like cooking can be so much damn clean up!!

I suck as a baker. I'm just not very good at exact measurements and following the directions exactly as they are written... hence a lot of my stuff tastes like and has the consistancy of home-made play dough.

I prefer baking so much more b/c it's so exact...cooking is harder for me b/c it requires some improvisation which I am not so good at!

Baking, hands down. It's much easier for me to do (I'm great at following directions!) and I like the taste of baked goods better than regular food

I cook well, and sometimes bake well also, but I much prefer cooking. Baking is very strict in terms of measurements, ingredients and baking time. There's more freedom with cooking. I can switch up spices and other ingredients to turn a dish into something different. If I leave it int he oven an extra 5 or 10 minutes it's usually fine. Plus I'm not a sweets kind of person. I don't like cookies or cakes, so baking provides no satisfaction for me, whereas cooking does.

love cooking, hate baking.
probably for a number of reasons:
- i prefer savory to sweet
- i'm impatient for the oven to preheat (although our toaster oven can bake w/out any wait)
- you usually need to follow a recipe exactly when you are baking, but when you are cooking you can experiment and still have it come out yummy

I am exactly the opposite. I love cooking because corrections are easier. If I am making a stew and it doesn't look thick enough.. I can add a little corn starch with broth. If I am making a dish that needs a little oomph.. I check out my cabinets and marry in a little nutmeg or cumin or curry or cinnamon or whatever.. If it's too salty I add more water or lemon.
With baking I get frustrated because I haven't mastered a lot of the chemistry behind it and that means I have to stick to the recipe and I don't get to put my own little stamp on it and make it MINE. For example.. I make my basic vanilla batter.. but what if I want to see how a little grand marnier would taste in there..? What if I want to use cream instead of water? What do I eliminate, reduce, bump up? I get confused and sometimes it works - but more often than not I wind up with a fallen, dense cake or crisp cookies that were supposed to be chewy.
Yeah.. I'm way more comfortable with cooking.

I love both, but prefer cooking. I like all the prep and figuring out the timing. Stirring two different pots while trying to figure out what is next for the recipe. I like making things that I have no idea how they will turn out. Baking has to be precise.

I'm pretty good at baking.... but baking is soooo bad for me that I only do it for special occassions...
I've been a gourmet cook since I was 13  (that is what happens when your mom only feeds you steak and chinese food for 2 years straight )

I love cooking!! if i had the time i would bake more but cooking is my passion!
plus with only me and dh in the house, it would not be wise to bake for just the 2 of us...
i'll bake during the holidays though...

I enjoy cooking and what makes it really nice: DH cleans up! He always does the dishes and clears the table! He even sets the table most of the time.  But, I do really ENJOY baking so much - more than cooking.
I love pies - LOVE making them!
