Re: Randella.. are you still here?
I am here... I posted about my doc appt yesterday.
2cm dilated, no effacement.
I have a non-stress test on Friday, where I will be 1 day past my due date, and another doc appt next Tuesday at 40weeks; 5days.
Still taking my evening primrose oil, had a glass of wine last night, DH gave me a massage and used some of the pressure points and then I forced him into sex. My cervix just ain't ripening.
I couldn't really discuss next steps with the doc, aside from the appts, because it was not my regular doc and she didn't want to "commnet about my case". Ok, so if you are covering for another doc and their patient is almost 40 weeks pregnant, shouldn't you two prepare to answer some damn questions?? I really hate my practice. It's just a big, huge Manhattan practice and there is no love there.
Speaking of non-stress tests-- what exactly happens at them???

yay for wine and sex! Seriously though, as I've said a million times, the sex should def. help with the ripening...even if you'd rather chew off our own leg then do it.
Also, I know it's freezing out, but go for walks. You want to make it uncomfortable in there for so he/she wants to come out.

i have plans to walk into town today, so i will walk at least a mile-- which isn't much. But DH will be home early today and we are going to go to the mall for some returns, and we can also do some walking there.
i am afraid to go too far on my own-- i feel like 15 to 20 mins drive time should be my cut off.

Walking is def. good! Do you know for sure if the baby is head down? If so, do some squatting exercises, FM me if you want specifics, I will try to describe as best I can. They will help guide the baby into position. This could potentially put more pressure on your cervix as well which you want at this point. But only do this if you know for sure the baby is head down already.

That is frustrating!
Non-stress tests are completely noninvasive. They will hook you up to a little machine that will monitor the baby's movements and heartbeat, usually for 10-20 min unless they see something. I had a big comfy chair and a tv and with the baby's heartbeat going in the background, it was actually quite pleasant.
A good friend of mine went from absolutely NO progress to having a baby about 15 hours later - even just the internal could shake things up. Hope it's your turn soon

Re: Randella.. are you still here?
Hey Randi - I've had two non-stress tests done, there's nothing to it.
They will put two straps around your belly, one listening to the heartbeat and the other checking for contractions. Basically you just sit like that for about a half hour or so, and they monitor the movements of the baby based on the heart rate. After that, they will do a quick sono to check your fluid levels.

Yes. Let me know if have any questions. And def. try to take a class, it will make you feel better all over at the very least, but let the instructor know if you go you'd like to do some extra squatting moves. Stay away from downward dog at this point only because you don't want to bring the baby back up.

ok-- I have pretty much have had that done when I have gone to L&D to get checked for whatever reason.
The doc said I need to do those like twice a week-- what a PITA!! Especially considering I have to drive into Manhattan (which isn't really too a big deal) but paying to park each time is. The guys at the lot hook me up cause the cheap lots fill up, but they let me park cause I am pregnant and just going to the doctor.

do you know the name of the position? I'll see if it's in my booklet.
ETA-- ok, it just says Squats, then to sit on a bolster. Are you supposed to squat to sitting position?

Doesn't have a name, just squatting. You can do either, sit on a bolster or just squat....like a catcher would behind home plate is the best comparison I can think of, but it's whichever is most comfortable. Maybe try a bolster or something first and if you think you can do without it and squat lower, then remove the bolster. Stay there for a bit and then when you're squatting, try and lean from side to side, like you're changing the weight distribution from one leg to the other, use your hips for this motion. You're trying to open up your pelvis.

Exactly, that's what I pictured when you said to move side to side.
Hey, I could pass for a Sumo wrestler at this point. I'll throw on a diaper, put my hair up and start yelling loudly. That will turn DH on so we can try another round of, err, "naturally inducing".

Oh boy the visuals!!!!!
Sounds like you may want to wear a poise or something. Squatting like that now, for me at 17 weeks, I'd surely pee myself!!!!
The whole thing sounds great to work though! I'm going to my library right now to find some prenatal yoga videos that I've been putting off for weeks!
