Rainy Monday QOTD
First off, I'd like to thank MrsT809 for making me FMOTW
Today's question is music related. I'm sitting at my desk at work, looking at this gloomy yucky day wishing I could be back at home in bed. I have one of my favorite CDs on because it reminds me of being on a sunny beach in the Caribbean and it's helping me to get through this day and I'm sitting here realizing how much music effects my mood and can actually relax me.
My question is, looking forward - do you think you will want to listen to music during labor & delivery? If so, what type of music? Anything specific in mind?
For me, I will probably stick to my tropical themed music - maybe some reggae (Bob Marley), or Jimmy Buffet, Kenny Chesney, something along those lines - simply because it relaxes me.

Re: Rainy Monday QOTD
I think I'd rather it just be quiet and just try to talk to DH or just have silence. I dont think I'd want to have music on.

I love listening to music but I think i would just want to focus on the labor and experience it to the fullest. Music tends to take me away...

Re: Rainy Monday QOTD
i will probably have my ipod. I have such a random mix of stuff on my ipod...all different types of music. I guess I will just listen to whatever I am in the mood for at the time!

I kind of feel this way, but I don't know. I already have one DC and never really though of listening to music during delivery, which is funny because music is a huge part of my life- it's what I do for a living. On the one hand, I could see it being so great for relaxation. But on the other hand, I don't like the idea of not being fully in the experience of labor and delivery. Hmm... I'll have to think about this one.

Re: Rainy Monday QOTD
I really have no idea what I would do. But I kind of doubt I will have music playing. Maybe during a lull in contractions I might want something playing in the background. But some quiet so I can concentrate will probably be the best thing for me.

I have never thought of that - but it's a good question. I usually have music on whatever I am doing and I think its a good idea. I actually find it easier to concentrate and focus if there is something going on in the background. Thanks for the question and the suggestion.

Ditto. I am a huge music person but I know I would find it way too distracting.

Re: Rainy Monday QOTD
I've never thought of this idea and probably wouldn't have thought of it when planning for labor. I'm sure if I plant the idea in DH"s head he'll make me a playlist since that's something he enjoys doing for me. It would be cool to have a cd of the songs I listened to that day to remember it. Now that I have the idea, I'll definitely plan to and then see how I feel about it the day of.

Re: Rainy Monday QOTD
Not really sure. I love listening to music and it always puts me at ease but I don't want it to take away from the experience. I will prob bring my i-pod with me and see what is best.
