Quick question: Is 'unutilized' a word?
Dictionary.com says no, but Miriam-webster.com has an entry (and I would have to subscribe to see it).
Morewords says yes...

Re: Quick question: Is 'unutilized' a word?
"Under utilized" would imply that an item was not used to its potential or not used enough whereas "unutilized" would imply that something was not used at all. "Un" is a prefix that means "not."
ETA: My dictionary says "unutilized" is not a word

ETA: My dictionary says "unutilized" is not a word true... but I still never heard anyone say unutilized. doesn't mean that the word doesn't actually exist though.

Re: Quick question: Is 'unutilized' a word?
I got a note from one of my students' mothers that said "Johnny incompleted his homework." Now I know "incomplete" is not a verb.

I don't think that's a real word. Of course, if the president decides to say it, it might become a word.
'Normalcy' was not a word until a past president used it in a speech (back in the 20's I think), and now it's an accepted word.

Re: Quick question: Is 'unutilized' a word?
Yes it is. I work for a firm that has utilization goals and all the time it is either:
"Her time is being unutilized"
"He is under utilized"

It sounds awkward though, doesn't it?
Unutilized sounds like it HAD been utilized... but now that usage is being taken away. Like deconstructing something? Oh well.
