Quick question about holiday bonus.. UPDATE
My DHs company always does a holiday party, but has never given a holiday bonus. This year, apparently they were given a bonus at the end of the holiday party. We left maybe an hour early because my 2 year old ended up throwing up out of nowhere, so we left kind of quickly.
2 of his coworkers told him that they did get one, but he spoke with both the VP and CEO today and neither mentioned this holiday check. What should he do? He feels awkward asking for it, but also obviously wants it since it was given to every employee.
ETA UPDATE- he called the woman who organizes the parties and picks out toys for the kids, to apologize for leaving so abruptly and to thank her for the toys she picked out for our kids. He mentioned that a few coworkers told him about a holiday bonus and asked her if he received one as well, and he did! She apologized for forgetting and she will put it right into the mail! We are so thankful, it was a great unexpected surprise and with #4 arriving in February, it was perfect timing!
Thanks everyone!

Re: Quick question about holiday bonus
Hell, I would definitely ask about. They are probably holding it in HR.

It's a smaller company, so there's not technically an HR. There is a woman who basically runs the office, but how would you word an email? He rarely goes to the office bc he's a consultant who goes to his client sites. For all he knows they put it in the mail for him, but I will say the company isn't exactly made up of the most moral bunch. Hes been screwed on things in the past, so I think that's why he's apprehensive to ask, bc he doesn't want to get pissed off if they give him the run around lol.

Quick question about holiday bonus
If he is a consultant, is he actually an employee? Or do you mean he works for the company consulting with its clients?

Sorry about that, he works for this company that had the holiday party, it's not the client site that had the party. Surprisingly enough his client site usually gives him a bonus bc of how hard he works, but his actual company who writes his check has never done a holiday bonus before, so he doesn't know how to bring it up. Hopefully I made that clearer.

Personally, I would not ask.
If he was going to get one, someone would find him and give it to him

Re: Quick question about holiday bonus
Are the others who received it consultants or actual employees? If they are employees and he is a consultant, then I would not expect to receive one. If there is an employee in charge of distributing checks I would speak with them in person and mention that you had to leave the party early.

I would think it would be easier in conversation mentioning to the office person. "I had to leave early due to an issue with my 2 yr old, but people mentioned about a holiday bonus....... "

Yes I would ask. The worst the boss could say is no you did not get one.

He is an actual employee of this company, but I was explaining he does consulting work so he's never at his company's office, he is always on site at his clients sites. So it's hard for him to get to the office just to ask about this, which is why I was hoping there was a way through email that could work for him.

If he is in the same position as the other people that got the bonuses, I would be asking. Do they value him at his job and is there any reason to believe he wouldn't be getting the same bonus? Was it a public announcement at the holiday party? Imagine you guys were at the party until the end---would it have been strange for him NOT to get one when those other colleagues did? If he can't think of a reason he wouldn't get the same bonus as his colleagues, I really don't see the harm in asking as someone may forget it about. I just emailed the head of my department to inquire about getting an office so I'm big on being straight forward and asking for things. It has always worked in my favor. The guy responded that they will definitely let me know when an office opens up so it obviously was a good request to make!

The CEO flew in and personally said something about each employee and handed them a check, so even 15 new hires received the bonus and my DH is highly regarded and been there for 4 years. I do think he is supposed to get the bonus, but bc it's never happened before I feel like it's going to get lost in the holiday shuffle. If he was going to the office anytime soon I think he would just ask, but he's not sure how to word it over an email, basically asking about money that's never been given out before. You probably are right that he should just be direct and ask, even if they said no, at least he's not festering about it.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts! My DH keeps joking that he feels like the griswalds waiting for a bonus to come before Christmas lol.

Quick question about holiday bonus
I was told by my director that I was getting one. The CEO walked around handing out everyone's check and I did not get one. I let the day go by and the next day I mentioned it to my Director, she said she would look into it. Later that day the CEO called me in to her office and gave it to me.
I would ask
Oh I just read your last post:)

Re: Quick question about holiday bonus
In my old company if you did not show up to Christmas party then you did not get bonus.

Re: Quick question about holiday bonus
Uncomfortable, sticky situation. If he wants to write an email maybe send an apology for having to leave the party early and since he won't be in the office request that the bonus check be mailed to him???
IDK As others mentioned, I would think that the company would have mentioned it to him already.
