Quick poll- did you have to work today?
We have to work everyday, holidays, snow days, 24 hours per day. Otherwise you wouldn't know you have a snow day. 
Just wanted to know what was going on out there.
And trust me, DH is cursing out everyone that has off. That's why it's an anonymous poll.

University was closed, staff were required to report, I called in sick at 6am. No way in H E L L was I going to drive in this weather!

My office is open but my road didn't get plowed until about 7:30 and DH is just now attempting to tackle the driveway.
I called in early to let my boss know at 6:30 I didn't know when we were getting plowed and when I might be able to try to venture in. When I spoke to her around 8:30 she told me to stay home & be safe which was really nice!!

DH opened his business today, 1 guy who lives in sayville did not make it, which is understandable but everyone else lives locally and made it except for one girl

In the 14 years I've worked here, we have never closed due to snow.
I'm here along with a handful of other employees. More than half the employees at my office called out either due to the snow or because schools were closed. I've heard that most people made it in to our other (much smaller) offices.

We don't really close for weather either.
We were told to come in if you could get here safely, and a few people take advantage of that & don't even try and they are people that can't work from home.
I figure if I came in during the transit strike, I can come in if the trains are running.

Yup, I'm at work. Anyone who doesn't come in today will have to use a vacation day.
I wonder how many managers enforce that though. I know in my group they enforce it.

If I wanted to work from home, I could have. But, since I don't have a home office, it'd be tough to get things done and focus, when I've got two babbling 10 month olds 
Plus, we just had a couple of layoffs here about a week ago, so no one is looking to rock the boat, by giving management a reason, should the issue come up again...even if it's a silly reason.
One girl emailed that she was working from home - and she lives in Brooklyn. An email response from one of the managers had a passive aggressive tone to it. So, we all knew it was best to come in.
