Quick help for those with little one with excema

My dd who is 9 has suddenly had a horrible outbreak of excema all over her back, tush and legs. She does suffer from it, but I've never seen it this bad. I think it might be from either the sunblock and / or the pool.

I do have steroid cream that I've put on her, but the area that it covers is massive.... I want to put some cream on her for those spots that are not as bad, can I put the cream over the steroid cream I just put on?

You would think I would know this by now since all three of my dc's have suffered from excema...LOL.

Lastly, I usually use eucerin or cetaphil cream, but she has been saying that they are burning....are there any other creams that you can recommend? Thanks!

What about Cera Ve? I think that's the name of it. I know it was recommended by DD's dermatologist. Or what about aquaphor?

My DD has excema too and the pool and sunscreen is always a bad combo because the sunscreen has chemicals and then the pool water dries her skin out. Yes you can put the cream over the steroid cream and it will be ok. We use the fragrance free Aveeno baby cream (it has a beige tube with a dark blue cap). Hope she's all better soon Chat Icon

I usually wait an hour after putting on the steroids to put any other type of cream or sunblock on top. The only sunblock where my kids didn't have issues with their eczema was mustela. As a kid and even now as an adult with eczema, going to a pool is torture. My skin would burn, get bright red and itchy. Swimming pools especially combined with warm, sunny days trigger outbreaks for me. I'm just getting over an outbreak now and have to wear a full sleeve shirt over the spots where I put steroids to give my skin a chance to heal. It stinks, especially in this heat!

I agree wtih CeraVe. It is so incredibly soothing and does not burn at all. I have been personally dealing with terrible eczema on my left hand and I could use CeraVe all day long.

You can get it at any place like CVS, Rite Aid. If you don't see it, ask the pharmacist because I think they can order it for you.

CeraVe is incredible stuff! definitely highly recommend!!!!

and i'd put the steroid cream on the bad parts...yes it's a lot of area - but the steroid itself isn't a STRONG one....(if it's anything like the steroid we were given)...

Re: Quick help for those with little one with excema

I have had huge success with Mustela Stelatopia body wash.

DD had BAD excema and with continued use of their body wash it's made a huge difference in her skin

I agree with Cera Ve. I use it twice daily on my little munchkin and it works wonders. At lot of times coupons.com has a $1 off coupon that you can print out for it. Good luck!
