Re: Quick Grammar question

.63 of a mile.

6/10ths of a mile to estimate

or

six-tenths of a mile for something more formal.

Re: Quick Grammar question

Thanks for the suggestions, I have to be specific with the distance so I can't round it. I probably should have given the context:

View from (road name) Southbound, approximately 0.63 mile west-northwest of the proposed site location.

To me, 0.63 miles sounds more fluid but my client asked me to change it to 0.63 mile (which of course I did), but it sounds odd to me. I was just wondering what most people would have used.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Quick Grammar question

Originally I thought 0.63 mile was correct because it was less than one. However, from what I found online (so take that for what it's worth) it should be 0.63 miles. You would only use the singular form if the number ended in one.
