Question/s re: gifts for nephews/niece

May/June is a killer month for me, I have like 10 bdays, and with that...3 happen to be my nephews who are from the same family.
There is a 4th child as well.

With that, would you set a limit on what is spent on each kid?

My SIL is generous when it comes to my DD but thing is, I have ONE child.

Im not trying to be cheap either but Im finding that every yr its getting worse and as they get older too...esp with celebrating two bdays in one day.


ETA: say $30 for each opposed to $50?

I think there is nothing wrong with setting a limit...it's totally understandable...

I think 30 is fine. None of my siblings nor my BIL have children and that is what they spend on DS for his birthday.

This day and age, a budget is a necessity.

Scope out the sales - you can get amazing gifts for $20 or $30.

I would set a limit-I wouldn't go crazy if it's beyond your spending comfort zone.

I try to set a limit but get something that was on sale so that it's still a nice gift. I just bought a birthday gift for $28 (originally $43) and at Christmas bought gifts for $39 (originally $80). Sometimes that can be tough as they get older though because they want something specific. But there is nothing wrong with a budget.

I think $30 is fine for a child. They love the same toys that are $5 versus the ones that are $100.

I am finding this crazy too. I think I work to support our gift giving and while that may sound like a joke, it truly isn't.

30 is fine. Just like going to weddings, we give a FORTUNE as a gift, meanwhile, come on--be honest, the amount most of us give, it hurts your pocket for a while.

I have 7 nieces and nephews, 4 of them were born in June. I usually spend $20-30 on their gifts.

I don't think there is anything wrong with setting a limit.

Or is there one big thing that they all want that you can get as a joint gift? We tend to do that a lot with my newphews.

limits are fine. another alternative is to get one big gift that they can all use-- like an xbox, etc.-- whatever they are all into or treat them all to an event like a baseball game.

I think it is fine to set a limit. You can buy a cute outfit and perhaps include a book or little toy for $30. Childrens Place had some great sales. I have a new rule, if I am not invited for a party/cake I dont give a gift.

I think it's fine. I have 3 kids and I don't have expectations for anyone to spend $$$ on them. 3 kids is a popular # in my DH's family - 4 of the families have 3 kids each and then my one BIL & SIL have one child. I always give that nephew a larger gift bc my SIL is buying for 3 on my side.

I started setting limits with my gift giving...nothing wrong with it. It's gets to be too much anymore. Especially when you have so much going on in one month.

I might spend less but I look for sales so maybe I can get two things instead of one...for a child it may be an outfit and book/toy. You can be creative
