Question for those that booked hotels for OOT wedding guests
If you didn't have 'enough' rooms, according to your hotel, did they bump the rate up for guests from the original group rate?
For my neice's wedding, one side of the family decided to go elsewhere and the hotel where the bride blocked rooms is now telling us that we need to pay full price for the rooms. I would've been okay with paying a bit more, but full price is killing us.
Is this normal?

Re: Question for those that booked hotels for OOT wedding guests
Sorry, I misunderstood the post... I used to work in hotels. If a group did not pick up all the rooms they had blocked, the hotel has the "right" to increase the rate. We never did (unless it was only 1 or 2 rooms that were picked up) as it is just bad business. How many rooms did she pick up? She can renegotiate the rate with the Director of Sales if she is also doing a dinner or a breakfast. She is guaranteeing a certain number of rooms so it is not a good business practice, especially in this economy.

Re: Question for those that booked hotels for OOT wedding guests
We blocked rooms for our wedding and met our block. If we didn't, we were responsible for the extra rooms that weren't booked, not the guests.

Our hotel did not change the rate contingent on the number of rooms booking.

No. We blocked rooms at 2 different hotels (different price range) and we didn't come close to the # blocked at either (most of the OOTers didn't come.) Both hotels honored the blocked rates for those who stayed there.

Re: Question for those that booked hotels for OOT wedding guests
I had a block of 25 and only 2 rooms were booked. I believe they still got the cheaper rate, I didn't hear that anyone had to pay full price.

I worked at a hotel I can try to help a bit...
as a PP asid, yes - they can bump you back to full price if the block # has decreased.

Didn't meet that quota and they didn't bump the price.

I met my quota but I know that if not all of the rooms were booked guests would still pay the discounted rate. They had to book by a certain date though, otherwise those rooms in the block would be released and they would have to pay the regular room rate.

We didn't book all the rooms we blocked out, but Holiday Inn Express kept their pormise at the rate for the guests that stayed with them.

We did meet our quota, but the guests' rates would NOT have increased if we did not meet the quota. The rooms were released one month before the wedding, though. I think that's terrible that your rate was increased. You might shop around to see if you can find a less expensive hotel in the area.

Re: Question for those that booked hotels for OOT wedding guests
I did not fill the block, but I made sure when I negotiated the block that the rate was the same if some/all of the rooms were booked.

Re: Question for those that booked hotels for OOT wedding guests
If we didn't fill the block, I would have had to pay the difference - not my guests. Once I filled the block, any other guests were given regular rates since the hotel was packed.

same for us. there was a deadline for guests to get the rate for the block of rooms. if all rooms weren't booked, no one got charged extra. if guests missed the deadline, they had to pay the normal rates.

Same here--we hada 10 room block. We used 4 rooms...and the rate stayed the same.

Re: Question for those that booked hotels for OOT wedding guests
The hotel "blocked/reserved" rooms at a discount until a certain date. If the rooms were not reserved by the deadline date they would be released to the general population to be rented are regular rate.
The rate only went up if the guest did not make the reservation prior to the deadline.
Our hotel have the discount rate even to our guests that made late reservations because they had so many rooms available.
