Question for those familiar w/Central Park FALL FOLIAGE!
Hi there-- If you're familiar with Central Park Fall Foliage and are there regularly, any idea when peak foliage will be for this season?
I've been checking a lot of foliage reports, but Manhattan/Central Park seem to be entities unto themselves. A lot of reports say that peak is nearing, but two friends told me that Central Park is still mostly green.
I'm trying to plan a photo shoot.
Do you think I'd have a better shot:
- the weekend of Oct 29
or
- the weekend of Nov 5th
(or even later...?)
How quickly does the foliage usually progress in Central Park?
TIA!!!

Usually around Nov 5th most of the leaves are gone.
I drove through today and there are pockets of change..but it happens very quickly in NYC.....

I agree. Just walked past there the other day and still lots of green. Only a few trees on our block have color and only one tree on our terrace is peaked.

Re: Question for those familiar w/Central Park FALL FOLIAGE!
I looked through my fall foliage pics of Central Park and they were surprisingly late - beginning of November. That was about 4 years ago, and fall foliage really depends on the weather each year. It has been consistently chilly for a few weeks, so I wonder if it will be earlier this year.
I think you need someone who has seen it for themselves recently. I tried to find a webcam for you but none of them show the trees of the park.

Yeah, I had thought that Nov 5th would be too late, but web sites say that things happen later in Manhattan because it's warmer than surrounding areas.
I also read that the foliage (in general) is around 3 weeks. Does the process go more quickly in NYC?

Thanks, that's so sweet of you! I couldn't find any good webcams either, but that's a great idea. I'll keep looking!

Keep in mind the marathon is Sunday Nov 7th, so the Central Park area can be really busy that day if you're thinking of doing it then, you might not have your pick of areas

I just went to a wedding in Central Park on the 16th and it was still mainly green. Definately do the 29th. 5th may be too late.
