Question for C Section mommies
Hey girls! So, I had to have an emergency section because my little one's heart rate started to drop. I feel generally great and have been home since Sunday. Anyway, the bleeding was starting to lessen and went from reddish to brown (sorry, TMI). I can't say I have been completely relaxing; who can with a newborn, right?!--but I haven't really been pushing it, in my opinion. Today I was nursing the baby and all of a sudden I felt a gush. It was red again and clots of blood. Not tons, but enough that I thought it got on my pants! (and we were at my in laws) Anyway, I'm not soaking through pads or anything. It was just this once. Now it seems much better. I plan to call on Monday but can someone help ease my mind? I'm panicked I did something to the internal stitches, though I'm in zero pain. My staples also got removed earlier in the week. DH was with me at the doc appt this week and could swear the nurse said I would continue to bleed for 4-6 weeks and that if this happened AFTER that point, to call. Thoughts?

Re: Question for C Section mommies
I definitely bled heavy on and off for 2 weeks after my c-section, and then it was light for another 3 weeks.
I'm sure you are fine. Since nursing causes your uterus to contract, I'm sure the gush was just from that. Give your OB a call on monday to ease your mind though. If you aren't bleeding through 1 pad or more an hour, it is probably normal post partum bleeding.
Congrats on your little one!

Re: Question for C Section mommies
Totally normal. I would have just spotting for a day or two and then when I wasnt expecting it....huge gush.
I guess it just takes a while for it to all flush out.

Re: Question for C Section mommies
Thank you so much, girls. I was really worried. And now the embarrassment has set it. LOL. I had a pad on but I totally had to ask my MIL if she had one! I felt like I was in 8th grade worried about getting blood on my jeans! And oh yes, I'm new to this board and will have lots of questions!

Re: Question for C Section mommies
Sounds completely normal and definitely happened to me. You are getting rid of 10 months worth of uterine lining! The bulk of the bleeding definitely was in the first week or so, but I had the same thing where I would randomly have a lot. This will definitely happen from time to time. I had a couple of gushes at random times and then next to nothing. There is no harm in asking the OB, but I wouldn't worry.

Re: Question for C Section mommies
Totally normal! I am a little over 4 weeks PP and the bleeding has finally stopped. While you BF, your uterus will contract, so that would def cause a gush of blood.

Sounds totally normal. My bleeding would completely stop and then would start again full force. This went on for about 7 weeks.

Re: Question for C Section mommies
I had clumps of "stuff" for weeks after and bled for a total of 6 weeks. It's normal. Don't panic.

Re: Question for C Section mommies
If you aren't bleeding through the pads, you are okay, most likely.
Stay off of your feet a bit and elevate your legs...drink a lot of water and see how you are tomorrow is my opinion.
Is there blood coming from the incision site itself?
