question cause im concerned and don't understand
Background
Have been TTC for 2 years now.
Did clomid for 4 months
Had my first IUI on 1/5
Went for first bloodwork after IUI on 1/12 doctor never called to say good or bad.
Went for next bloodwork after IUI on 1.15.
Doctor called and said my hormone levels are very low and I need to start taking hormone pills.
My period is due Monday 1/18.
What does this all mean.
If my hormone levels are very low at this point does it mean I can't be pregnant. How concerned should I be that my hormone levels at this point of the procedure are very low.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: question cause im concerned and don't understand
Its not unusual for progesterone to be low for infertility patients. At least, that was what I understood. After my IUIs, I was put on progesterone because I have low progesterone issues. For my one successful pregnancy, my levels were low and I was on progesterone through most of the first trimester. I also had a history of miscarriage. I don't think it means one way or the other. Good luck- when is your BETA?

im not sure when my BETA is?
Could that have been on Friday 1/15? when should it be.
when you say that you were on progesterone after your IUI when did you start. My IUI is a week and a half into it and I haven't started anything yet and now they are just teling me my levels are low

Re: question cause im concerned and don't understand
If AF is due on Monday, I can't understand why they waited 3 days before your period is due to check your hormone levels?? That should've been done at least within the week after your IUI. Who is your RE?
Haven't you asked the nurse or doctor any of these questions? Did you ask them if you should be on supplements for the low hormone levels? Just b/c your hormone levels are low, wouldn't necessarily mean you aren't pregnant but it is important to have them at a normal level.
I would call the RE tomorrow (if you haven't already) and ask them questions so you have some answers.
ETA: I just re-read your post. I assume your bloodwork taken on Friday was your BETA test.....which means it was your pregnancy test. If they said your levels were low and didn't ask you to come back for more bloodwork........then AF may possibly arrive.....but.....theres still always hope.

Re: question cause im concerned and don't understand
Definitely talk to them more about it - ask all your questions. It isn't unusual to be put on progesterone - I can't remember at what point it starts though, I think earlier. Talk to them about it - all of this is hard and scary, so its important to ask lots of questions here and at the docs! Good luck to you!

Re: question cause im concerned and don't understand
well got my period today.
I am assuming that taking the hormone medicine isn't "terrible" news but what i need to find out is why it was only noticed on my second bloodwork after IUI.
From what I've been reading most women start this medicine right after the IUI. I dont understand why I am so late

Clomid IUIs don't require progesterone. Only if levels are low.

Usually the first IUI cycle can tell the Dr's a lot, your levels and what not.
The "hormones"- is it progesterone supplements?

It's possible that when they said your hormone levels were low, they could have meant the HCG which is what detects pregnancy, which makes sense b/c that was your BETA results (aka pregnancy test).
If your progesterone was low, they would have said it a lot earlier and most likely would have said "you have low progesterone". Some RE's, after an IUI with Clomid, will put you on progesterone supplements even if your level is normal. It's just extra precaution and can't do much harm really but make extra cushion for the uterus/lining.
I've gone to 2 RE's and they both have had me done this......even while my levels were normal. But I assume every DR and RE is different.
But please make sure you ask your DR or nurse all these questions so you have a better understanding of your next cycle. You deserve and have the right to know why and what is being done/checked/tested during each visit.
