Question about twin sized beds
For this of you who transitioned from crib to twin/full sized bed, did you just get a mattress or a box spring as well? I'm not getting a frame right now, but I wonder if putting the mattress in the bare floor will damage it. What were your experiences? Thanks for your advice/replies.

Re: Question about twin sized beds
Well we went from crib to toddler bed to a twin size bed w/ mattress/boxspring. Why don't you just go for the boxspring w/ rails?

Re: Question about twin sized beds
We got DS a captain's bed, so that bed does not use a box spring.
If we had gotten a different bed that used a box spring we would have.

Re: Question about twin sized beds
We first transitioned to a toddler bed then to the twin. The twin that we got can use either a boxspring or a "bunkie board", which is basically wood slats under the mattress. I opted for that since the bed would be lower. Eventually, when DD is ready for a higher bed, we will get her a full boxspring/mattress set. For this reason, I don't think that putting a mattress on a wood floor will ruin it at all.

We got a twin bed and got a bunkie board also for DS until he is older and can get a boxspring. The bed would have been way too high for him with a boxspring AND mattress.
If you don't want to use rails, you could look into a low platform bed. You would not need a boxspring with a platform bed.

Re: Question about twin sized beds
Thanks everyone. We tried the toddler bed, but she needs to be "comforted" to sleep and the toddler bed is not sturdy enough for one of us to lie in it with her. That's why we're going for the twin. Our apartment is small (we live in the city) so we don't want to invest in a bed frame yet. I love captains beds, but we just don't have the room.
I think we'll go for the mattress for now.
Thanks again.
