QUESTION about timing

Okay here is another probably dumb question.

So if I am charting my 28 day cycle I "should" get my period on the 28th day

BUT....

If I ovulated on CD19, should I then count 14 days out from there and assume my period would come then?

Re: QUESTION about timing

it depends on a lot of variables.

is your cycle regular?

how do you know that you ovulated on the
18th?

do you have any idea of your 'average' luteal phase?

cycle has been regular every other month
28
34
28

I took OPKs everyday until I had the 2 lines (don't know more than that)

No idea when my average luteal phase is--or what that even means.Chat Icon

not necessarily. i never had a 14 day LP. i usually O'd between CD 13 and CD 15, and got AF about 10 days later. do you know on what CD you O'd the previous months?

however, if you normally have a 28-day cycle, and this time you are positive that you O'd on CD19 (which is something like 5 days later than would be normal), then i would expect AF to arrive to be late this month as well - but if it's not i wouldn't be too concerned, unless it turns into a pattern.

ETA: your LP is the time from O to AF - so if you O'd on CD19, and got AF on CD 33, then you have a 13 day LP (because CD33 is actually CD1).

okay - luteal phase is the number of days from when you ovulate to when you get your next period.

it's supposed to be 10-14 days - but some people have shorter phases than normal and require medication or assistance to lenghten them.

if you're regular every other cycle - then i'm not sure how to comment...i'm really sorry!!!

Re: QUESTION about timing

definitely not a dumb question. unless you are charting or using OPKs for a few months and can pinpoint your ovulation day for several cycles, it will be hard to know how long your leutal phase (LP) is. and that is what you need to know to determine if you are late this month. LPs are generally 10-14 days so maybe use 12 for this month and go from there. add the length of your LP to the day you ovulate and that will tell you the cycle day you should expect AF.

if you get AF, count the number of days from O to AF and that is your leutal phase. you can then use that info for next month, if necessary!

14 day LP is within the normal range so that is good. sorry you are out this month. at least now you will know if you are late next month.Chat Icon

I think I'm confused.

When did you ovulate and when did AF come?

Oh, okay. So that would be a 13 day LP and that is perfectly normalChat Icon

For calculating LP, you don't include that day that you got AF - only the amount of full days before that.
