Question about temping - Im new to this!

I am trying to temp every morning to understand my cycle and so far I am clueless Chat Icon

I have been taking my temp at 7:15 every morning. It is all over the place. Both up and down! However today it spiked up really high compared to yesterday. It is only CD10 so I am not sure if I am ovulating or not. Obviously it is going to take me a few months to get this down and understand it.

However, is there anything I need to know before temping? Should I do it as soon as I wake up? Should I give myself some time first? Is there anything that can affect my temp in the morning? I took it at 7:15 and it was 97.49 and I just took it again at 7:20 and it was 97.20.

first off you should be taking it as soon as you wake up. like the very first thing. try not to even get up or move around if you dont have to. the more you move around will def affect the accuracy of the temp. so will sleeping with your mouth open but unless you want to temp vaginally i wouldnt worry that much about that one.

always try to take it after at least 3 consecutive hours of sleep, and within a half hour of your regular time.

def dont take it more than once a day either it will drive you crazy.

temps will always go up and down but in time you will start to see a pattern or average for you pre-O temps. when you do O your temps after O will be significantly higher. they will also form a pattern and post-O average. when you see a temp spike you need three consecutive days high temps before you can confirm that you def did O. then your temp should stay elevated until AF or if you get a BFP it would stay elevated.

Keep in mind that FF won't confirm O after at least three days of elevated temps.

thanks Chat Icon

I have been doing it as soon as I wake up so at least that is good. I will continue on this way and look for a pattern.
