Question about Taylor

I don't want to "rain on the parade" - I am very happy he won (I was tired of women always winning), but honestly, was he really the best one?

I never watched AI but I did watch the last 10 minutes last night and then saw his performance.

I would have liked Chris to win, but i definitely prefer Taylor's voice to Katherine's.

Yes. He had the whole package - great performer, soulful singer, great voice and he was unique...there's just something about him.

Maybe you could say that Elliot had a better voice... but he did not have the stage presence.

Katherine is marketable. Very marketable. And she has a good voice which I think will improve but she was not the best.

Chris...well...great voice, okay performer.

Taylor has personality and talent. His album will be great. Yes, IMO he deserves it and he proves that he is talented with a great personality. He appeals to a wide range of people not just a particular target.

I definitley think he deserves it! I said to DH last night he always had fun, interacted with the audience, and made you laugh and smile.
Chris was good, but, Taylor's personality is definitley better!

I don't think he was the best singer. And if you take away his visual 'appeal' -- those gyrations and convulsions and spastic dancing, I don't think he'll have mass radio appeal...

I don't think you can judge Taylor by the last 10 mins.. He sang one of those cheesy American Idol songs-- which IMO never showcase the talent the two finalists have. These songs are always boring and void of personality.

Taylor was my favorie all along--- I think he is the whole package-- a great singer and wonderful entertainer. His he the typical American Idol Pop star-- no, but I think that is why he appealed to so many people-- I think he casts a wider net in terms of his audience-- if he put out a non-poppy album and sang stuff more true to who he is-- I think even my parents who are late 50's/early 60's would buy and enjoy-- My parents would never even entertain the thought of buying a Clay Aiken CD, but then again, neither would I-- but I want that Kelly Clarkson CD!

No. A lot of it seemed to be visual 'appeal' combined with his voice.
IMO, the two best voices in the top 10 were Mandissa and Chris - when I turn away from the screen and listen to them sing, they sound the best to me.

there were people who won on past AI shows....who I didnt think was the best.
Im glad he won...Im so tired of seeing another female pop singer.

I feel bad for Taylor, cause he will be another Rubin down the road, I wish him the best, but I dont like his voice at all. I feel none of them were super good. I feel Katherine had much more talent then Taylor.

I think the question is...what is an American Idol? IMO, I think some who appeals to a wide range of people AND sells a lot of albums (because, lets face it, if you don't sell albums, you don't appeal to people enough for them to spend money on you). So, although I liked Taylor and found him entertaining, unique, and talented, I don't think he should have won. In the end, he likely won't sell that many albums except for the inital sales. I heard someone in the press say today if America wanted to hear someone who sings like Joe Cocker, Joe Cocker's music would be at the top of the charts.
The only true American Idol so far has been Kelly Clarkson, but time will tell...
