Question about sleeping through the night

My baby will be 3 months on the 30th and has been sleeping through the night for about a week. I don't consider us "out of the woods" yet b/c she only just started doing it. She had been totally quiet and out of nowhere the last two nights, she has woken up crying about 4 times, lasting only 5 minutes and she goes right back down. She is drooling a ton, hands in the mouth all the time and I think we're starting to teeth--could this be the cause? Not sure what's going on. I don't indulge her and pick her up unless she is hysterical or the crying goes on longer than 5 min or so. Thoughts? This is so confusing! The other night I did give her a little bit of formula and she went right back down, but I don't want to get in the habit of feeding in the middle of night when I just weaned her off that one.

I think what you are doing it perfect! I always had a five minute rule. DD started to teeth at around 3m and got her first tooth at around 4m. They say early teething is easier, so maybe we are lucky!

(DD is 8m and still STTN! I hope it lasts for you guys!)

Re: Question about sleeping through the night

My dd is almost 4 months. She has been sleeping through the night for about 3 weeks now 8pm-7am, she is also teething, sucking her hands like crazy, drooling like a monster, etc. She starts to fuss around 3am and I have to go give her a binky and then she falls right back to sleep. I think the problem is that she needs to suck on something because her gums hurt and it wakes her slightly. Have you tried the binky when she cries?

she really isn't a pacie baby (i always call it pacie, not binky for some reason, LOL!) and usually spits it out and seems to prefer her hands...I also wonder if there's a growth spurt going on, too? should i add a "mini feeding" somewhere in the day? She eats 5 times a day, every four hours. Her sleeping through the night is usually from 11-7. Her last bottle is at 10:30 but I'm looking to push that back soon, too. She does about 6 oz each feed. Anyway, maybe I'll try to pacie. I also worry if I push the late feed back she'll stop sleeping through; I don't think she's ready to eat much sooner than 10 pm.

Re: Question about sleeping through the night

I think you are doing the right thing.. if she is not hysterical and only cries for 5 min...and goes back down that great. She's a bit young for really crying it out but what you are describing is good!!

could be teething but also at this age is when they just start putting everything in their mouths and drool...so it may not be teeth..just normal 3 month old stuff Chat Icon

I think for a new mom the most important thing to remember is..they are not robots.. they wake in the night just like we do...Once they you see a pattern..it will change....the betst thing to do is GO WITH IT!! dont fight it and don't wonder why is this happening.. what am i doing wrong.. they are changing constantly!!! If I was told this.. Id have been better off!!Chat Icon Chat Icon
Sounds like you are doing terrific!!Chat Icon

ETA: Dont rush the change in feeding yet.. maybe add another 1/2 oz to her last bottle...
