Question about Rosary Beads
I apologize in advance if this is a silly question. I'm not really a religious person, more spiritual than anything else, but was raised in Roman Catholic family. Despite going to years of religious instruction, I feel like I know very little about the religion and its traditions. This afternoon, while putting away Christmas decorations in our basement, I found a set of rosary beads on the top of an old grandfather clock that was left behind by the deceased owner of our home. From what neighbors have said, he was a very religious man, went to church more than your typical Sunday service, and walked around the block saying prayers and blessing people. My question is -- are you "allowed" to keep/use someone else's rosary beads? I've heard of family members passing them down to other family members, but they belonged to this man who was a perfect stranger to me -- his house was sold as an estate, I never met him, and only know his name from some old pieces of mail that still get delivered here. I've started to pray more recently, and wasn't sure if using them would be "bad luck" in anyway. Thoughts on this?

Question about Rosary Beads
It is not considered bad luck to use rosary beads that belonged to a stranger. I would actually take finding them as a Sign you SHOULD use them to pray.

Re: Question about Rosary Beads
Not Christian, but my immediate thought was that since you have started to take up religion, they were a Christmas gift to you from the prior owner. I would think he would be really pleased that they were being used as intended.

I totally agree. Rosary beads are meant to be used. If it makes you feel better, have them blessed so they feel like they are really yours. I would think if anything the fact that this man was prayerful & used them frequently would make them even more special

Question about Rosary Beads
Use them if you would like. I have had several sets given to me over the years, some quite fancy, yet I ended up using some I have no idea where they came from. They may have been left at my parents house by someone at some point. They were simple and I liked using them.
I don't think it matters who the rosary used to belong to as long as you are happy using them.

Not bad luck at all! Use them, I feel like maybe you were supposed to find them. And say a prayer for the man whose they were!

Re: Question about Rosary Beads
I feel like it is quite interesting that you have started praying more recently, and you happened to find these beads. I am a very spiritual person (and Roman Catholic) and feel this set of rosary beads could bring only positive energy into your life. As another poster said, offer a prayer in honor of their original owner.

Question about Rosary Beads
I collect them. Some I have bought myself, some were gifts and I have 2 sets that belonged to each of my parents. I would use them if I were you.
