question about introducing cows milk

question about introducing cows milk to my ebf 11 month old. My goal was to make it to a year which I am proud to say I did! Since ds is drinking less now my milk supply is diminishing. When did you intro cows milk? Did you wait until after a year or do it somewhere in the 11th month? Don't know if ill be able to keep a supply the whole month. A

Did you give milk alone or gradually wean off a mix with breastmilk?

How many ounces a day should they get? Should I give it like a bottle of bm at certain times or only with meals?

When night weaning should I give him milk in a bottle before bed?

Thanks so much ..any other advice would be great!! Chat Icon

question about introducing cows milk

I FF, but I weaned from formula to milk 1oz at a time over the course of a couple of weeks starting at about 11 months. Does your DS take a straw cup or sippy cup at all? You might want to try that instead of going to a bottle at this age. It would just be one more transition for him to come off of it.

At that age DS had 3 bottles (then we switched to straw cups) a day, morning when waking up, after lunch and after dinner. For a total of about 24 oz a day, but he loves his milk. My ped said anything over 8/10 but no more than 24/30 is okay at one year old.

As far as night weaning, can you change up your bed time routine a bit now so he nurses, then you get him changed, brush his teeth, read books, etc.

Good luck! And congrats on making it to your goal!!

Same as PP. I transitioned DD (who was FF) over the course of a couple of weeks starting around 11 months. I transitioned her off of bottles at the same time. I just put an ounce of milk in her bottle/cup and increased by an ounce every 3 days until she was getting all milk. She was, and still is, getting 3 sippy cups of milk a day.

Re: question about introducing cows milk

I started the switch at about 11 1/2 months. I did a 6 oz bottle with 1 oz of milk the rest formula for 2 days. Every 2 days I added an oz of milk and took away 1 oz of formula. It took about 2 weeks to be on full milk. He did great.
My Dr says no more than 18 oz a day. My son drinks three 6 oz bottles a day.
Good Luck!
