Question about giving water to infants
My son is 5 months old and our ped just OK'd giving him an ounce or 2 of water on hot days, when we will be out a lot, etc. I didn't think to ask at the time- do you give them cold water? Or is cold too shocking for them, so you do room temp? TIA!
ETA: He is EBF, except having oatmeal, for which we heat up breastmilk. And if he has a bottle of BM, we heat it up.

Re: Question about giving water to infants
My DS is 5.5 months and my dr told me to wait until 6 months. I gave him a few sips before mixing in the formula to make sure he didnt choke bc water is so thin. I would just give him room temp water.

Re: Question about giving water to infants
I started to have them "experiment" with water in a sippy cup with meals - so around 6-7 months! they don't "get it" at first so it really is only a sip here and there!

Re: Question about giving water to infants
At 6 months I gave my DD water for the first time. I put it in a bottle. I cannot remember if it was room temperature or cold. But she was used to her bottles cold too, so the actual temperature never bothered her.

Re: Question about giving water to infants
We started at 6 months, and I gave it to her in a sippy right out of the fridge...but her bottles always came right out of the fridge, too.

Re: Question about giving water to infants
i started around 7 months when it was getting hot out. i give him water cold. i use the nuby sippy cup with the bottle nipple. he has to suck really hard for anything to come out. its really good to get them transitioned.

Re: Question about giving water to infants
ped ok'd it for us at 2 months. My kids were born big (10+) and gaining too fast on top of that. Plus they were both born in June. (both were EBM)
