Question about getting a second dog
We have a 2-year old male Brittany, and have been considering adopting a second one for a few months now. A few people have been lecturing me against getting a second dog saying it's hard and all they'll do is fight. Now, I know it'll be more difficult and more expensive, but is it really not worth it? I would introduce the two dogs first to make sure they're compatible. Then down the road if they really fight, I'd hire a trainer to help with the situation.
Does anyone have any stories, opinions or recommendations?
Thank you!

Re: Question about getting a second dog
I am in the same boat you are.. I am on the fence for about 6months.. I try to dog sit for my friends as much as I can so I csn get the feel for it.. Its hard.. Two of everything.. And they both want my attention at the same time.. When my time is up with the dog sitting I have to admit I feel relieved its back to just the two of us hugging and cuddling alone.. can you foster a dog first maybe? that might work so your not obligated and you dont feel bad?

Re: Question about getting a second dog
i've had multiple dogs for many years. when i brought a new one in she quickly learned her position in the pack. one of the older ones usually took on the role of parent. i mostly brought in puppies but i did adopt one that was a little over a year and we got one from my dh's uncle that was 7 years old. one year i lost two dogs within months of each other and brought two in within a year's time. the one i had took to the second one and not so much to the first. however all three are still together and they've all learned where the belong. i love having multiple dogs and they like having companions to play with.

http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic-299741-1.html We recently discussed this on another thread.
My take on it is in there!

Re: Question about getting a second dog
Great, thank you. I've been lurking for some time because I really shouldn't log in from work, and I knew I saw a post on this recently but couldn't find it.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I like the idea of fostering a dog, maybe we will try that first.

Re: Question about getting a second dog
We fostered greyhounds for 2 years before we got our 2nd dog. Hailey was a foster of ours and she got along so well with Sara and she really fit in with our family so it was an easy decision. Some of the fosters we had before Hailey wouldn't have worked out for one reason or another so fostering really worked for us.
