Question about flooring
Ok, for Christmas my Mom said she would give us money towards our laminate wood floors. Now, I have a couple of questions (we were thinking of using Empire because being my DH works all week, it could take months to install).
-How much on average is a Sq Foot? -How can you tell the quality differences? -We want to replace the carpet in the bedrooms, should we do it all at once? -What about our kitchen area? Should we do tile or wood laminate? Which looks better if we were to do oak cabinets? -Does Empire do Tile? -What if I want to keep crap laminiate in my laundry room (because of the dog). Will it look funny next to tile? I could always put down cheap tan laminate myself? Look in album, I have a pic of the transition from kitchen to laundry room. I don't want it to look funny.
Now I'm in a 975 Sq Foot Condo. That being said, how much do you think it will cost to redo all the floors? We wouldn't be doing the bathroom yet. We are very serious about do this. Thanks Kerry

Re: Question about flooring
Not sure about all your questions, Kerry, but we got our laminate floor from Lumber Liquidators for $1.99 sq/ft. We put it down ourselves - it took one weekend for the one room, are you putting it all over?

Re: Question about flooring
I totally forget the pricing but my DH did our old condo himself. We did the wood flooring with tile in the attached foyer/kitchen. We also had tile leading to the balcony (it all matched).
It doesn't look bad at all...so I would suggest it. But, if the tile hadn't already been there we probably would have done the whole thing just for continuity.

Re: Question about flooring
We put laminate in our apartment in the house for easy care to tenants. We bought ours from a place in Lindenhurst for $3.99 per sq. ft. installed. It was worth it to us because we didn't have to time to do that too with the rest of the remodel going on. One guy did it in about 5 hours for a 300 sq. ft. area. If you want the name of the place, I will get it for you.

Re: Question about flooring
My contractor told me that LI Paneling has the best prices for qualtity laminate around. I've never used them, but I sent two friends, who after shopping around, agreed that LI paneling's price was best. Check them out. By the way one of my friend's used an installer they recommended and was very happy. I think its safe to assume that they will be cheaper than Empire.
