Question about clomid/metformin
Once you start these medications (or one of them), how often must you see your doctor (RE)? How closely do they monitor you? And how will you know you're ovulating?

Re: Question about clomid/metformin
I see the RE on CD3. Then take clomid (with met) CD 3-8. I usually go in about 5 days after the last clomid dose, or CD 13. They should monitor you by sonogram and bloodwork. Once you have a follie that is big enough they will either wait to see if you ovulate on your own or give you a hcg trigger. They will know you have ovulated because your progesterone levels will go up. They can also see the corpus luteum on a sonogram.

Thank you so much for the info! So in terms of TTC, how will you know when the time is right (Does that make sense?). Do they assume you'll be on an average 28 day cycle?

I don't think they assume you have a 28 day cycle. Generally you don't ovulatue until at least CD13 - so I would start Bd'ing around then.
I'm on a clomid cycle now - taking them CD 3 to 8, and have to go in for testing on CD 12 - depending on what they see then I will trigger that night or maybe the next. Ovulation occurs about 30 hours after the trigger. And the egg needs to be fertilized within 6 hours of ovulation.
Hope that helps!

Re: Question about clomid/metformin
I go in for CD3 blood and sono and start Clomid on CD3-7. I don't go back until I get a +OPK for more blood and sono.

Re: Question about clomid/metformin
I go in for CD3 bloodwork...clomid CD 3-7. RE usually brings me back in on CD13 to see how things are progressing....then I'm usually in every 3 days until follie(s) are mature and either I am going to O on my own or get shot to do it.

Re: Question about clomid/metformin
Can I ask you another question?
What exactly is a trigger? And how does it work? I am new to all of this - and don't see the RE until the 16th!
Seems like it's a lot of monitoring and going to the doctor pretty often. Guess this is what I'm in for.

A trigger is a subcutaneous shot that you give yourself when the doctor tells you to. It brings on ovulation. I use Ovidrel.

I go to the doctor's office for my trigger, the nurse gives it to me intramuscularly. If you are not having a natural LH surge, the trigger is used to bring on ovulation. Becauase of PCOS, my LH level is constantly high and I don't ever get a surge.
It is a lot of monitoring, but you will get used to it.
