Re: Question About Camcorders!!
it is 1 of the formats...
Some use mini dvd, some are stored on a hard drive, there are still some 8mm tapes out there... but mini dv is pretty common

thank you - so if we are being told that we can submit a video by videotape, mini dv or dvd - does that pretty much cover the range?

Dh is an audiovisual technician. I just asked him and he isn't clear on what you're asking- do you have a certain brand/type of camera that the 'handheld videocamera' is?

no - we have to make an audition tape and we were told it can be videotape, mini dv, or dvd - we do not have a camcorder, that's the issue - so we are trying to find one to borrow that is one of these types...

Re: Question About Camcorders!!
be careful with those mini DVDs.... Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.... I think those dvds can't be read by most computers and dvd players (unless mini's are specified as accepted formats)
We bought a harddrive camcorder, since you only have to plug it into your computer through a USB port, and then you can burn things on regular DVDs or watch it on the computer.
Also, harddive camcorders hold much more memory

Re: Question About Camcorders!!
VHS are the big, older videocamera tapes- which you put directly into a VCR.
DVD is DVD.
MiniDV is the most common format tape today used in camcorders.
Where do you live? If you live anywhere near me I think we have a miniDV camera... I'd have to check to be sure though- I never use our video camera.

Ugh- I'm out on the North Fork...
How long would you need a camera for? I can ask DH if he has any friends or business contacts up that way that might be able to help you if you don't find anyone.
Let me know if you don't find one... GL!!!

Re: Question About Camcorders!!
one can be had for about 150 to 200 bucks if you want to buy one... its a good investment to have to shoot family stuff and other events
I would recommend the entry level Canon zR series...
Im in Amityville if you need to borrow it...
