question

im new to this; havent started ttc yet, but have a few questions.... if i usually get af on the first of the month, then how do u figure out how long your cycles are, and what day you ovulate on (besides using OPK's). Is CD1 the first day AF arrives? and then CD14 is when you O? (usually)? Sorry, like I sqid, Im new to this and this stuff confuses me. Chat Icon

Re: question

the first day you require a pad or tampon is CD1.

The day you ovulate is O day. The first day after that is 1dpo (which then puts you in the two week wait) before AF arrives.

Check out the post at the very top of the page - it's VERY helpful.

As for figuring out when you O without OPK's - that's a little harder to do. You can base it on CM only - but that's not exact at all...(trust me - i'm going this month based on that only)...

welcome!!

Re: question

no problem at all...

there are some other 'signs' of ovulation coming - someone today posted questions about it - so be sure to check out that thread...

do you have any idea how long your cycles are normally??

also - are you coming off the birth control pill? (that would affect any answers)

Re: question

okay - so if you have a 30 day cycle - then you get AF on CD1 and very likely O between CD 13 & 15 and you probably have a good LP (luteal phase).

Your luteal phase is the technical term for the 2WW (two week wait) - it's the length of time between Ovulation and AF. 14 is a VERY good length to have.

what determines whether your leutal phase is good or bad? what does leutal phase really mean? Just that you don't have tp wait long to see BFP or BFN? im sorry if im driving u nuts.

not making me nuts at all!

a 'good' luteal phase is between 12 & 14 days. Yes - it means you have to wait longer to get a BFP - but it also gives the 'implanted embryo' time to 'hold on'...if you will. Can't think of a better thing to say for that to make sense.

If you have too short an LP it COULD lead to problems (though some women have gotten pregnant with short LP's).

it's different for everyone...so this is all just my two cents :)

Re: question

i don't want to get your hopes up - it could've been a randomly short cycle...but there is such a thing as implantation bleeding (when the embryo, well, implants)...not everyone has it, and for some it's heavier or lighter than others...but it could be...

as i said though - it could also be that you just had a randomly short cycle...

If you normally get AF on the 1st - you aren't late yet...

it just confused me bc i usually get it on the 1st ( got it on aug 1) but then aug 26th i thin, i got it again, so then the 26th of sept i would have gotten it again if it was the same cycle, otherwise oct 1st. so lets see within the next few days. i had cramping a lot last week but nothing yet...

Re: question

Have you written down the dates of your last AFs?

It's better to think of your cycle in terms of length - not by the dates when it comes.

So let's pretend these were your past AF dates:

(Pretend dates)
4/1: cycle = 31 days
5/2: cycle = 30 days
6/1: cyle = 32 days
7/3: cycle = 29 days

(Your real info)
8/1: cycle = 25 days
8/26 - You are on CD 35 today.

My point is that even if your period comes AROUND the first day of each month, that's not a great way to tell when your next AF would be due. You need to look at the length, since each month has a different amount of days.

If you give me your last 6 or so AF dates, I can help you figure out your average cycle length.

i just started keeping track aug 1st, so i only know them. and by the way, AF came today. Chat Icon So, the last three were 8/1, 8/26, and 9/29. So, If today is CD1, tell me what to do from now on!? When should we get strared and what should we do exactly?

Okay here's your gameplan!

Your first cycle was 25 days, second cycle was 34 days.

Today is CD 1.

Start testing with OPKs (ovulation predictors, you can buy them at Target, Walmart, CVS.. either ones with lines or digitals) on CD 10 (October 8th). You may need more than 1 box.

Hold in your urine for 3-4 hours, then test between 2 and 8 pm. I plan it around when I come home from work. So if I get home from work at 6, then I will pee for the last time at work at 2, then not again until I get home and can use the OPK.

Starting on CD 10, you can try to BD every other day.

Once you get the +OPK, you'll want to BD that day and the next three days. Then you'll enter the TWO WEEK WAIT with the rest of us!

Re: question

sorry more questions.. ok, so when you get the OPK and starrt testing, you test every day with the OPK until you get a positive?

Also, what if we BD every day starting CD10? Is that better ?
