Question - Blind Offer
did anyone ever make a blind offer? meaning putting an offer on a property that you were never inside?
i dont think i would do it, i am thinking about it though b/c we live out of the state we are buying in and house hunting has been a toture process for us - we can't just go see listings that we think we'll like b/c the houses are in florida!
we were waiting on a short sale but i dont think its going to go through and if we spend a little more money we can get a bigger house that already has a big pool...
i can send my parents and have them take lots of photos - but they won't be able to get there until probably monday...
if you liked what you saw in the photos and your parents approved of the place would you make an offer without being in the place yourself?
ETA: i like to walk into a place and get " a feeling" so that is what makes me nervous, b/c the place could be gorgeous but if i dont get a feeling when i am inside its no good....

Re: Question - Blind Offer
NOPE, would never do it. We live in NC, moving back to NY. We have been having MIL look at them and then we fly up once a month or so to see like 30 and pick and choose. If there is one thing I have learned is, pics on the computer NEVER look the same in person! I personally want to see it for myslef and not take anyone word for it. Its a HUGE purchase. JMO

No way!! there were places I LOVED online and then we went to see them and it just wasn't 'the one'. If DH and I didn't get the feeling, we didn't discount it, but we weren't eagar to put in an offer.
Maybe you and DH can get a running list of houses in the next few weeks and then take a long weekend to go look. I'm sure you have a REA there, so pressure him/her to do the most for you while you are down there.

Re: Question - Blind Offer
well we've been doing the whole looking online thing - and then we fly down to see a bunch - we've seen SO MANY houses already its at the point where i know the models and floorplans, the names of the models, i can tell the builder by the front of the house and i know all the blocks in the neighborhood
i agree though - about getting a "feeling"
DH feels a little different - he says that if we can get something in the location we want, for the price we want, it has a lakeview, a pool and 4 bedrooms then we should just try and get it - he feels like everything on the inside can be changed anyway - and if the location is good and it meets all of our requirements its good....
its tricky b/c the neighborhood we are looking in is kind of competitive - so the good things get scooped up really fast - so that makes it hard to wait a week to fly down - we did that once and by the time we flew down the seller got an offer and accepted it :(
then we had an offer on a short sale for months - and we kept looking in the meantime....
i think i am sending my parents to a house tomorrow morning....so ill report back....i was just in florida monday - and i have a feeling i may have to go back now
at least i *think* i am done with short sales

Re: Question - Blind Offer
NO WAY, dh and I seen a home in a real estate book and it had a pool listed as well, so we made and appt. to go see it, it was listed for $80,000.00 we got there and OMG, it was a shack, literally. and the pool was a plastic kiddie pool, dh was so that our time was wasted, a cardboard box would have been more livable. oh, and it had no plumbing, they ripped it out. the real estate book made it out to be nice, NOT !!!

Re: Question - Blind Offer
We could as long as it was an urgent situation and DH's parents were the ones looking at it. They've built houses and moved enough times to understand what quality is and what we are looking for. And I trust their opinion.

Re: Question - Blind Offer
Ideally, no. But if I had to, I would make an offer on something my mom and my sister looked at and gave me the green light on. I would never make a totally blind offer though, I'd have to have the okay of someone I trusted.
I think the tricky part is accepting that this is ultimately on you. If a year down the line there's something about the house or the area that you aren't happy with, you can't fault your parents. Part of making an offer without checking it out yourself is accepting the risk that you might not be completely satisfied with everything.
Good luck!

yeah, that is what makes me nervous about having my parents check things out for us - its risky for us....but at this stage in the game we might not be able to get a place without doing it this way....i trust my mom's opinion and she knows what we like - and she is honest about things she does or doesn't like in a place...she knows my style (my mom has been house hunting with us so that is why i am saying she knows what we like and what we want)...plus my sister is going to tag along and take pictures and video for us....so that may help....
we dont have the opportunity to fly down every time something catches our eye (b/c of time off work and flights are expensive on such short notice) on top of that my DH and i are pretty picky so it's not often that something is available that meets our criteria so that makes it even harder - its not like we can plan a trip and see whatever is on the market at any given time b/c there may not even be anything
there is one house we saw this past weekend and we both really liked it - but the sellers are being ridiculous with their listing price - they are way overpriced and dont want to come down - they dont want to believe that their house isnt worth xyz they have been listed for 3 months already and they are doing an open house this weekend to see if they get anything - their realtor thinks after this open house (she doesnt expect them to get any offers b/c they are listed to high) they may realize they need to come down and then maybe they will entertain us....i dont know, the sellers realtor knows they are overpriced and is trying to convince them that if they get an offer from us they should take it - but we havent officially made an offer yet...so in the meantime i want my mom to check out this other house....so hopefully monday i have some sort of idea of where things are going.....
i just want to move already!!

Re: Question - Blind Offer
I know you guys have been looking for a while- but the camera hides a multitude of flaws- agents are famous for posing pictures certain ways, stretching etc.
