Ques about pregnancy if 35 ++
If 35 , is there extra testing done by OB? When I had my 2 dc's I just had the NT screen at 12 weeks. Is amino and CVS a must?

My OB really pushed an amnio because of my age. It was not mandatory, but highly recommended.

I am 37 and pregnant with #2 and I declined anything other than the NT scan and the Level II/Anatomy Scan. My results came back so good from those that I saw no reason to proceed with genetic testing, amnio, or anything else. Baby is due in in two weeks and everything with him looks great.
The only way I would've had the extra testing done was if they had a strong suspicion that something was wrong from the routine testing.
ETA - I reallllllly didn't want the amnio unless absolutely necessary. I am only 37, not 57. I didn't feel it was necessary unless there was a strong reason. Also, I know it's uncommon, but my aunt lost a perfectly healthy baby boy because they forced an amnio on her and that scared the cr@p out of me. Age alone is no reason to have an invasive test like that. I needed a better reason so I declined.

My OB said there was really no need for additional testing if everything looked good on the NT scan so I did not get an amnio, CVS, etc.
I did have to sign paperwork stating that I decided against taking the tests though (I was 36).

IMO an amnio and or cvs are not necessary and if you have no plans on terminating the pregnancy if something is wrong then totally not needed. If you decide on doing one, I would do the amnio over CVS as it gives you morr answers and tests for more things.

I was 37 when pregnant and my doc didn't even do an NT scan, he pushed for an amnio. He did do quad testing (blood test) and my #'s came back at a high chance for Down's. I didn't do the amnio and DD was not born with Down's.

Not a must.
I was 38 when I had my DS and god willing I will be havign another and I am almost 40.
I declied the NT Scan because based on my age alone my results could be high for no real reason.
My Dr said I did not have to do anything. And the only real reason to have any testing done (CVS Amnio) was to make a decision if soemthing was wrong and you would maybe terminate.
DH and I discussed the tests and if we felt we needed to know no matter what. My Dr advised me on what the test entailed and risks.
We opted for an amnio and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Not as bad as people make it out to be and was uncomfortable but not painful. Also no where near as risky as they used to be...they are sonos guided so they do not carry the risk like they used to.
No test are required. It really just comes down to what you and your DH want to do.

Theres a test called Materni-T21 and it tests for genetic disorders. Its just as accurate as the CVS or amnio. Its just a bloodtest so we did it. We were also told the gender by this test at 15 weeks. I was 36 yrs old.

I was only 35 at the time but I wanted it.
And would do it again in a heartbeat.

I was going to say this as well. I will be 40 with this one (I was 36 with my first and after the NT results came back very good, my doctor didn't think the amnio or CVS was necessary.)
The doctors I have seen so far this pregnancy have said the Materniti21 will probably begin to take over for the need of the more invasive tests. It's so easy - simple blood draw.
I think you can always decline the tests. I also don't think everyone who has the tests done do them based upon a plan to terminate if there is an issue. I think many people just want to know to be prepared.

with my first i was almost 35 and with my second almost 37. I had two different drs for my pregnancies. Neither one pushed for an amino or any other test. Nor were any even suggested. All blood work and nt scan, 16 week sono all came back perfect. Its a personal choice of course if the drs saw something and suggested these test i would have had them done.

I think it MAY be covered by some insurance. They did tell me that if it was not covered by my insurance, the most I would have to pay OOP was $235. I have yet to receive a bill though and it was done in December. My Dr. office told me I would probably receive a bill for like $1000-2000, but to call the company (not the Dr. office)and talk to them and they would work it out.
ETA - I think you can do it from 10 weeks on. And yes, you can find out the gender as well.

I'm 35 and pregnant with my 2nd. Dr. offered me an amnio, I declined and we just went with the NT- if the results of that had come back elevated, I might have considered an amnio at that time.

It depends on your insurance. My insurance covered part of it so I had to pay like $200. I took the test at 15 weeks.

I was 38 when I has DS. Additional testing never even came up in conversation. However DH and I had discussed it and knew that no matter what we were told nothing would change so we knew additional testing was not needed for us. I don't think anything is mandatory you always have choices.

I was 36 when I got pg and 37 when I delivered. My NT scan came back awesome (was told it was like I was 20 something, ha!) and amnio was brought up due to my age. I declined and had to sign a waiver  Next time I plan on using midwives and being as low-tech and non-test taking as possible. We wouldn't have terminated so it was a moot point for us and will be next time too.
ETA: Nothing is ever a must, you always have the option to have or not have any tests.

I will be 35 at time if delivery and my doc at first suggested an amnio but my dh and I agreed we wouldn't have done that but then my placenta was anterior and she didn't want to do any amnio with that being issue so she suggested the maternity 21 test and dh and I decided to do it bc it wasn't invasive...,although my nt scan was perfect I just wanted I be sure bc of my age....dh and I would've had to talk seriously about termination if that was necessary and honestly even if we decided against termination we would've wanted to be prepared like the quoted poster above a lot of ppl use these tests more so to be prepared rather than termination.....all these tests like most other posters said are choices they are not mandatory but to my dh and I would rather know than be surprised

I had my first at 35 and second at 38. No amnio or cvs were pushed -or even discussed for that matter. My NT screening and other routine tests all came back fine.

I'm 36. Only extra test my OB recommened was the Materniti 21 blood test. Also had the NT scan and quad screen. OB didn't wait for the results of the quad screen before sending me for extra test though, she said they did quad screen bc it will also check for indictators of pre-eclampsia and placental issues. All of my test results were great. Bonus to the Maternity21 test was that I had confirmation of gender at 14 weeks. No amnio or CVS mentioned at all.
