Queens People--parking question
Ok, so I know that people can get territorial about the street in front of their houses. I was in Queens and kept seeing open spots, not blocking driveways or anything, but had this "No Parking" signs not cemented in with threats of towing. Some even had chains up. Now anytime I have seen legit No Parking signs there is also a number to call and name of a towing company, should you be towed--these did not have this. So are these legit signs or just really ass-holey people trying to keep free space in front of their houses? The streets did not have another restrictions posted and cars were parked all up and down.

What kind of sign? Paper? What did they say exactly?
In my family's Brooklyn neighborhood (I don't live there but I am there frequently) people do that mostly with cones. I just move them if I'm sure it's bogus.

Queens People--parking question
Unless it's a DOT sign or a sign for parking on private property, the signs are not legit.

Re: Queens People--parking question
On my Parents block there is a few
The reason thy are there is technically it's a spot but the spot is so small whoever parks there blocks half the driveway
The spot in front of my parents house is a spot, but I can't tell You how many tucks go there and don't even realize they are blocking the driveway

Re: Queens People--parking question
There was a few on a set of chains attached to 2 cement blocks...moveable blocks...on the sidewalk and one on a pole cemented into a moveable cylinder and a few posted on the fence in front of the house. None were permanent. No construction, over by the Queens Museum of Science. Side streets. So, what do these ppl do if you park there?

Nope, just the street, not a lot. A DOT sign would be on a permanent structure with some sort of official mark, right?

If the signs aren't legit, they can't do a thing. And I am sure they can get in trouble with the city for making up fake parking signs.

Re: Queens People--parking question
Sounds bogus for sure.
I would still look for another spot because people are crazy and you never know what they will do but you could definitely park there.

Yes and yes. I didn't want to come back to a smashed windshield but it was very annoying. Plus I had DD with me so didn't want to get into it with anyone. But I was curious how they get away with it. I gues you'd have to report them.

Queens People--parking question
Sounds like people are parking in driveways and they want to nip it in the bud. It probably happens a lot over there because of the Hall of Science, the park, etc.
I wouldn't park in one of those spots even if you do clear the driveway. I wouldn't want my tires slashed or my car keyed. Not worth it. I also think the cops would give zero sh!ts if you called to report it.

Re: Queens People--parking question
I got a ticket once from one of those signs. They were doing construction, and said it was a driveway but the sidewalk was thick and half the sign was covered.

Re: Queens People--parking question
I've seen this a bunch of times. A few times the signs almost look real until you look closely at them. I've also seen these signs where the spots are too small & if someone parked there they'd be blocking the driveway, as someone already mentioned. And I cannot stand when someone leaves a cone in the spot in the front of their house... are you kidding me?! You don't own the street. That must be illegal.
