quad screen...

Everything I read online says how inaccurate this test is (false positives and false negatives)... so what is the point?!

Re: quad screen...

ive actually never heard of it until the other day when someone posted about it. it really stinks that there can be so many false results.

Re: quad screen...

I don't really understand the term false positive because the test is not meant to be definitive - just evaluate risk.
So now I have a risk of 1 in 19 that DC has Down Syndrome. If my child is born without DS, I won't say the test was "wrong" - just that I was not that "1" - I was one of the other 18, KWIM??
Believe me, right now I am cursing these tests and I can't make heads or tail what to think - but they are assigning you a risk and I guess we all have to take it for what it's worth...

It's not diagnostic at all, it's to see if there is a need for further testing.

That is why I opted out of this test twice. They will see any issues at the 20-week anatomy scan, so I didn't see the point of getting a potential bad result from this test and then still having to wait for 20 weeks to see if there was actual a problem. I wasn't planning to do an amnio.

This is it.. it just gives you a ratio and its upto the patient and the doc to decide if they need further testing..
