Re: puerto rico
We were going to go this spring but decided against it. But I did a lot of research and either the Ritz or the La Concha were my first choices.
Not sure about all inclusives there.

Re: puerto rico
If you don't mind being out in nowhere land try this resort:
Copa Marina
Very quiet, peaceful place. You fly into Aguadilla not San Juan.

We recently went and stayed at the Marriott Stellaris, but I don't recommend it for couples. It's full of families (great for us though)
I saw this one on Groupon or something recently and it looked nice...love the pool area http://www.melia.com/en/hotels/puerto-rico/coco-beach/gran-melia-puerto-rico-golf-resort/index.html

We go every December. Usually stay at the Ritz in Isla Verde, it's nice but VERY quiet. Last year we changed it up and stayed at La Concha which was nice and the surrounding area is more happening, but I didn't love the room and I personally prefer Ritz over it, just more low key, relaxing, different crowd. La Concha was younger. Eat at Marmalade in old San juan. It's amazing.

Re: puerto rico
I've been before and loooooove marmalade. I'm just afraid I will overdose on mofongo and gain weight. At least in cancun, I know the restaurant menus and can control myself. We aren't big party people when we travel. I'm seriously going just to dip in salt water lol

We were at the Ritz in San Juan about 2 years ago and I would not recommend it for a couples trip. The new St. Regis at Bahia Beach is supposed to be beautiful.

I haven't stayed at La Concha but we had at drinks at their lobby bar and there was live music in the lobby. It was beautiful and we said we would stay there on our next visit. I also found the neibourhood to be lively. Right by the ocean, lots of shopping, and restaurants close by.
ETA - We had dinner at Oceano, it was walking distance to La Concha. It's right on the beach and the food and service were great. Dinner outside overlooking the ocean at sunset was great! We went around a holiday and the restaurant was completely booked, I had to check their site several times a day to manage to book but if you go during during non holidays, it probably won't be as busy.

We liked Marriott Stellaris. I was either going to pick that or the Ritz.

Re: puerto rico
Oh I wanted to add...at La Concha they don't have balconies. So if sitting outside is important to you, then I wouldn't book there

When we went, it was a last minute trip and holiday weekend, so it was sold out and we didn't stay there but I remember seeing pictures of ocean view rooms. I have to look again as we plan to go for NYE. It's a shame if they don't have balconies or at least ocean view rooms. For me that's the point of staying at a ocean front hotel so I can have breakfast or wine sitting on the balcony to relax.

How do you justify the extra money you pay for the balcocy then jk I have to wear the complementary robe, order in room service for breakfast, and take couple of pictures with the ocean in the background

There are ocean view rooms, but I'm pretty sure they don't have an actual balcony.

Re: puerto rico
We always opt for the cheapest room possible. We almost always get a free upgrade upon arrival but I don't look for a balcony room. When I travel. I'm up by 6 and in bed by 10 and don't stop in btwn. Paying extra money for a better room is not worth it for us. Maybe when we have a family, it'll matter.

I've stayed at the caribe Hilton and the embassy suites San Juan. I prefer the caribe, and it's a super close bus ride to old San Juan.
Do the bicardi tour, the fort, and the rainforest.

Re: puerto rico
We just got back today. If you're looking just for a beautiful beach and some peace and quiet and don't want to eat mofongo, I highly recommend landing in San Juan and getting on a helicopter and going to Culebra. There's not much to do there but OMG, that beach. It is amazing. We stayed there for a night at a friends house and ate at Zaco Taco, rented a jeep and drove around the Island. So peaceful and beautiful. As far as San Juan, we stayed in Farjardo area by Seven Sea beach. We ran into some people that were staying in El Conquistador and raved about it. We also took a boat and went to another Island called Icacos and the beach was beautiful. Had to take a fishing boat there about 20 minutes from Farjardo. Nothing there so you must pack a cooler and take some food but I highly recommend it.

Ditto to almost everything.. Caribe Hilton is great. I went with a friend at the time, but felt it was mostly couple when i went.
