PSA -- now that the weather is cooler and our windows are open....
...beware of burglars!
We were leaving our house Sun afternoon for a BBQ when we heard the police helicopter over our block. There were more 20+ police cars in our neighborhood -- turns out our neighbors one block over came home and heard someone in their house. They backed out of the house, called the cops, and the kid kicked out a window to get outside, then started jumping fences through the neighbors' yards.
Apparently the kid slit a screen in an open window to get in.
They still haven't caught him, and it makes you feel unsettled. The family this happened to have little kids, so it's even more unsettling.

This is why I love my windows that have locks where they only open a little bit at bed time during the day they are wide open

One of my other neighbors just e-mailed me to say that she had a guy in her backyard one night last week. She had all the lights on in her house, the alarm was on, and her dog was barking -- the guy was still trying to open ALL the doors -- plus her sprinklers were on so he left footprints all over the deck and driveway.
Scary stuff...

I also have those window locks and not to scare you but someone broke right through them at my sisters a few months ago. Be careful about during the day too! My sister was robbed at 12pm and I was HOME! We live in same building, different apartments.
We also had helicopters and police w/search dogs around here the other day. There has been a bunch of daytime burglaries!! It is so scary.
