Provera Pill
Currently on CD38 and AF is 9 days late from her usual schedule. I have taken multiple pregnancy tests, all negative. I happened to have an OBGYN appointment yesterday for my annual exam, and spoke to the doctor. She said if by Monday, AF doesn't come, that she will prescribe me Provera which will induce a period and "re-set" my cycle. Has anyone ever taken this for this reason? Were your future cycles out of whack? Or did you just get right back on track? Thanks

I took it a few times, but that was because I was not ovulating and I wasn't getting my period. I don't have normal cycles, so I am not sure if it will mess with your next cycle.
The first time I took it my cycle was over 80 days, the second time it was over 60 days.

with my son, I stopped the pill to ttc and never got AF. Tests were bFN so around cd45 my OB scheduled an appt to give me provera at cd71. I ended up getting a surprise BFP at cd53! provera is often used to jumpstart AF but I personally would wait a little longer to take it. or at least have blood done first to see if you ovulated

I'm on it now. This is my 3rd time. I've only ever needed to take it when the doctor wanted my period to come for some reason - to start BC pills or fertility treatments. There's not really any harm in having a long cycle here or there. And did your doctor do a blood test to see if you've ovulated? If you don't know if you've ovulated, how can she prescribe this to you? All 3 times I've had to take the medicine, they wouldn't let me fill the prescription until my blood test results came back.

Provera Pill
I normally don't ovulate, and I rarely get AF. The doctor only prescribes provera after a blood test confirming that I am not pregnant. You take 1 pill a day for 10 days, and then AF starts a few days later (but it could take up to 2 weeks after your last pill). Like others have said, it just restarts your cycle.
